COLOMBO PORT CITY & ONTARIO

[The United Nations Genocide Convention, which was established in 1948, defines genocide as "acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, as such" including the killing of its members, causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group, deliberately imposing living conditions that seek to "bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part", preventing births, or forcibly transferring children out of the group to another group. Victims have to be deliberately, not randomly, targeted because of their real or perceived membership of one of the four groups outlined in the above definition]

All reliable laws would lead to truth. Truth when manifested at physical level is referred to as ‘fact’. The former is the parallel of soul and the latter is the parallel of the ‘person’ who carries the soul. As per my realisation, when we are true to ourselves, we live through our soul-power which is nuclear energy within. Once Energy – that automatically joins the Universal Energy / Prapanja Shakthi.

When Canadian Tamil politicians claimed that what happened in Sri Lanka was Tamil Genocide – it was not corrected by their leaders / elders – be they Canadians and/or Tamils. It resulted in the Tamil Genocide Education Week Act being passed by the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in May this year. Any policy expression in parliament needs to be underpinned by belief.  Otherwise, manifestations in the name of such law would become the law when opposed. As per the Morning report the Bill included the following preamble:

[ “The Tamil community in Ontario is one of the largest concentrations of Tamils outside of South East Asia. Tamil Ontarians have families still suffering in their homeland in the North and East of Sri Lanka. They have lost their loved ones and have been physically or mentally traumatised by the genocide that the Sri Lankan State perpetrated against the Tamils during the civil war which lasted from 1983 to 2009, and especially so in May 2009.

“Acts of genocide against the Tamils started in 1948 after Sri Lanka gained its Independence, and were perpetrated through Sinhala Buddhist-centric Government policies, pogroms, land grabs, and ethnic cleansing. The United Nations (UN) estimates that in May 2009 alone about 40,000 to 75,000 Tamil civilians were killed. Other estimates place the death toll at 146,679 civilians.

“These figures only reflect the death toll in 2009 leading up to 18 May, the day on which the civil war ended. The loss of Tamil civilian lives during the genocide, which continued for decades in Sri Lanka, is much higher. In addition, the Sri Lankan State has systematically disenfranchised the Tamil population of their right to vote and to maintain their language, religion and culture. ]

The war is confirmed to have started in 1983 and ended in 2009 during which period Genocide is claimed to have happened. Then the Bill goes to 1948. The manifestation in 2009 is indicated to have been caused by Sinhala-Buddhist-centric policies of the Government. Is this true or false?

It is true that the Bandaranaike government brought in Sinhala only as official language policy in 1956 and  Buddhism Foremost article in 1972. They were both purely political. The former was confirmed by the passage of ‘The Tamil Language (Special Provisions) Act 1958’ followed by the 13th Amendment in 1987, when Tamil was also made the official language in the constitution. To continue to ‘show’ that as the cause of the war is to negate the value of the contribution by those who actively fought against the Policy and/or died in the process.

Canadian government has facilitated the Great Heroes Day celebrations by Tamil Activists, including through the Tamil Genocide Education Week Act which ends on their Great Heroes Day. My attention was drawn today to the posting in the official account of the U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka, which posting includes the following:

[at its heart, Memorial Day is a day when Americans reflect on the sacrifice of those who have given their lives in military service]

If Tamil Nation is taken as the parallel of America, then that declaration was made by Tamil Politician through Vaddukoddai Resolution 1976. The Tamil military that died in 2009 was led by those who killed these politicians. May is significant in that it was on 21 May 1991 that Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated. It’s a day of mourning for Tamils – including Indian Tamils. The memorials on 18 May wipe out all those political achievements so they can take it all.

Memorials confirm heroism. Genocide confirms lack of heroism.

China’s government is being found fault with including by Tamils – as takeover of Colombo Port City. By passing the Genocide related law, is not Canada allowing Tamils to abuse their parliament to be taken over by LTTE supporters?

The ethnic issue was/is  a program that began with the departure of the British as rulers. It is ongoing and is healthy – so long as we have intellectuals who are able to oppose on Equal terms as majority. The armed war was a project that had a beginning and an end. Canadians who treat the ethnic issue as a project limited to the war are stealing Sri Lanka’s Opportunities to learn and improve.

Sri Lankan Tamil heritage is strongly based on family relationships which extend to the community. When seniors are killed by juniors – that is like the child killing the parent. Those who limit themselves to the younger generation are doing exactly what they claimed the Sri Lankan government did.
