UN’s Duty  to Facilitate Polarisation

The pandemic, while a reality, would expose weaknesses that we have neglected over the years. This is not only in terms of physical health, but also mental stability. The Morning report headed ‘Lohan Ratwatte allegedly breaks into Anuradhapura Prison’ includes the following:

[State Minister of Prison Management and Prisoners’ Rehabilitation Lohan Ratwatte who, as exclusively reported by The Morning on Monday (13) had allegedly forcibly entered the Welikada Prison premises with a group of his friends whilst under the influence of liquor, had allegedly similarly entered the Anuradhapura Prison on Sunday (12) evening.

According to sources, the State Minister, who hails from an influential political family, had attempted to degrade and punish Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) suspects by ordering them at gunpoint to kneel down in front of him. It is learnt from the sources that he was under the influence of alcohol during this time as well, and that he had entered the Anuradhapura Prison premises in a helicopter]

This is a small scale picture of what happened in 2009 to those in the custody of Sri Lankan Armed Forces. To my mind, the evidence that the UN is seeking surfaced on the same day – 13 September – Madam Michelle Bachelet, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights submitted her report to the 48th session of the Human Rights Council. Truth surfaced the evidence at the same time. The Morning reported to the Sri Lankan public. The UNHRC reported to the global public.

Given that the UN has no direct jurisdiction over the Sri Lankan government, it does not need objectively measurable evidence as to what happened in 2009. The Universal power of Truth is showing the evidence that this government has no control over its armed forces and therefore would repeat acting the same way they did in 2009. If we do not regulate ourselves as per the official structure – then when we are ‘free’ our real culture surfaces.

As per the above report:

[Yesterday (14), Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF) MP Gajen Ponnambalam published a post on his official Twitter handle, stating that his party could confirm that Ratwatte had entered the Anuradhapura Prison, summoned the Tamil political prisoners, and made two of them kneel before him at gunpoint, threatening to kill them on the spot.

On behalf of the TNPF, Ponnambalam called for Ratwatte’s immediate resignation, and that he be stripped of all portfolios. The Tamil National Alliance followed suit, calling on the Government to immediately remove Ratwatte as State Minister and “have him arrested and charged after an immediate inquiry for allegedly threatening to kill prisoners in the Anuradhapura prison on Sunday”]

That is the one to one yardstick that the LTTE would have followed. One who feels global would use  the higher measure and know that this is the natural way of this government. We call it ‘Piravik-kunam’ / birth-trait. One cannot cure genetical problems – the same way one would cure the ‘flu. The call ought to have been for this government to resign or accept polarisation as being genetical reality in Sri Lanka. In other words – let the UN facilitate Polarisation.
