Gajalakshmi Paramasivam – 04 November  2015

Follow the Law Mr. President
Follow the Truth Ms Australian Diplomat

Yesterday, I received for the first time an email from a member of the News Ltd. media group. It was significant to me not only because News Ltd. is a big name in Australian media but more importantly that it happened around 05 November. The significance of 05 November is explained through the following sentence in the excerpt below( Appendix ):

[The reason for this is Swami came to me on 05 November 98  by materializing holy powder – when no one else (including Professor Dowton or Param) seemed to connect to what I was doing and saying and help endorse me to myself for myself. Swami Sai Baba  knew and therefore to me He is God. ]

This morning, as is my way I thanked Swami yet again – for helping me realize that Dharma/Righteousness comes to comfort and support those who uphold  Dharma/ Righteousness.

Back then I was in pain – like an orphan whose work was rubbished by custodians of Power at the University of New South Wales. Back then, I did not have conscious knowledge that my own Dharma would protect me. Even though I identified with the miraculous  manifestation of the Holy Powder I had no idea of the significance. The day after – on 06 November 98 when I went to the University to help one of the officers who needed my help – another officer – Phil Dulhunty called me over to his workstation and showed me the report in Sydney Morning Herald of 05 November, criticizing the University Budgetary system. Phil without formal accounting qualifications but with faith in me – made the connection to my work – already done and published internally and shared with Arthur Andersen’s who were the Cows with bells/m]i kdfdi[ maDkqf, preparing an expensive Consultancy Report..  The Arthur Andersen’s officer did thank me when I shared my Professional Intelligence with him but the report to the Public did not include my contribution. But Phil did not forget. Hence Phil became the medium through whom I learnt the pathway of Dharma – Cause and Effect.

Now I realize that through that lesson - I was being led to develop my writing skills to become my own Independent medium. I learnt also that I needed to become the spokesperson of those who were in similar plight as I was back then and if no one else was around – that I needed to endorse the genuine work of anyone who was hurting due to lack of recognition. In the process I learnt also - that revealing my own real status needed to be mandatory where the pathway of Truth was being damaged. Under those circumstances I needed to take on Rebel position to be equal to the highest ranking official responsible. Any more than that would result in unjust actions – including Reverse Discrimination which is in breach of Institutional Dharma.

During this morning’s ‘thanksgiving’ prayers I thought also of the plight I was in, in the village of Thunaivi within Vaddukoddai where the first political declaration of Independent Tamil State was made. Some of my actions based on Dharma may result in me going to prison at a time when LTTE supporters arrested under Prevention of Terrorism Act are being considered for release. I had to ask myself as to what my duty was in relation to that on the basis of my direct experience in Sri Lanka.  I had to start with the TNA which I believe is in the position of  Leader of the Opposition - due also to my contribution in influencing minds of voters - largely  through the Lord’s system – as happened to me in 1998 through Phil and others who did their duty one way or the other.  Like the voters – Phil was the last link in the chain that linked cause and effect.

If indeed these LTTE supporters were arrested through the Administrative Process and then released through the Political Process – their status is demoted and through them the value of the LTTE and through the LTTE the value of Tamil Self Governance itself.  One needs to go to the Vaddukoddai Resolution from which the LTTE drew its Authority to Rebel at National level. Hence every  Political Party that contributed to the Vaddukoddai Resolution has the responsibility to ensure that those who are released on the basis that they are Political prisoners – are certified by those Political Parties that gave birth to the Vaddukoddai Resolution. If any of these prisoners once released are involved in criminal activities and are established to be so through the Administrative and Legal processes of Sri Lanka – then the Political Party that endorsed them loses its eligibility under Vaddukoddai Resolution and therefore should not seek political status on the basis of  Separate Tamil State. Given that there is no legal provision towards this – it needs to be personal bail by the individuals supporting the release.

The TNA strategy is as follows as per published news:

[The TNA however said that if the President fails to meet his commitments by November 7 the prisoners will resume their fast and the TNA will also join them.
The prisoners have been demanding their release or to be tried for the charges raised against them.] TNA will stage ‘Fast to Death’ on the 8th November 2015 – published by UK Tamil News.

The TNA has no authority to undertake such a fast while holding the position of Leader of the Opposition. To do so would be suicidal and we did not send them to Parliament for that reason. When such fast is undertaken while holding official position it confirms disrespect for  the Administrative and Judicial Processes. It amounts to reverse Administration.

As per the above report:

[Several prisoners detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, have not be presented to court]

If there are Administrative rules – the matter needs to be escalated to the highest Administrative level – through those rules. That as per my knowledge would be the Minister for Justice – a position currently held by the Hon Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe about whom Wikipedia reports:

[He won the award of the Outstanding Young Person (TOYP) in the field of legal affairs in 1998 and was appointed as a President's Counsel in 2001. He had been an examiner in the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo. …..In 2010, he was elected to Parliament from the Colombo District. In 2012, he was elected President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka. During his tenure he led the Bar Association in support former Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake during her impeachment. Following the 2015 presidential election he was appointed Minister of Justice.]

All these achievements have to be included by the Minister in his current service as Minister for Justice and any lowering of standards to bring a matter within the control of Political minds including those of the President and the Prime Minister – would be disrespectful of  his status through the above mentioned achievements. If the standards are so lowered it confirms that those qualifications  belong to someone else who includes the parallels in their service through their current positions. This could be an ordinary citizen and if such were the case – People must be facilitated to develop the Policies of that Ministry under such a person’s leadership.

Once we have strong and reliable Administration – there would be no need for reconciliation except with our own Truth. Here is a reality check about Jaffna from a Colombo Tamil:
“Jaffna drives me nuts – once when I was there (long time ago)an old woman walked the street with a huge palmyrah branch tied to her back to indicate she was low caste and to ensure the ‘others’  would not come out.  And then someone wanted to buy house on a certain street, but was not allowed because only high caste people lived on that street.
I hope things are changed or changing there.
I believe our karma (under majority rule) is due to these attitudes.”

In the meantime, the Colombo Gazette reports as follows :

Australia reiterates warning to Lankan boat people

After briefing interlocutors on a new development partnership, that, subject to national government approval, will create more local jobs in tourism-related businesses across the Eastern Province, the High Commissioner said “While Australia has been investing in education and economic infrastructure in Eastern Province for the last four years, we are turning the attention of our development cooperation towards the creation of economic opportunities for local people. Working with public officials, we hope to support partnerships between training providers and businesses of all sizes in the tourism industry, to drive a greater alignment between the needs of industry and the skills of prospective employees”.

Batticaloa – the Capital of Eastern Sri Lanka  is reported to be the worst affected area in the 2004 Tsunami – with 57,219 families being affected. One of the reasons attributed for the damage was also Karuna’s betrayal of Northern LTTE. As per Sunday Observer on the release of prisoners:

[Rev. Fr. M. Sakthivel, who is working as coordinator to the NMRPP told the Sunday Observer that the self-styled colonels and leaders such as Vinayagamurthy Muraleedaran alias Karuna Amman, Kumaran Pathmanahan alias KP and Sivaneshathurai Chandrakandan alias Pillayan are out but only the minor cadres who acted on their instructions are in prison.]

Unless we include Truth in our Decision Making – we risk punishment through Acts of God where the Causal Forces are pampered by those playing the role of Government in that area. In this instance, such could include Terrorism coming to Australia not through boats but through unjust lawful processes promoting foreign business and enjoyment while locals continue to suffer anxiety. At the recent meeting of the Sri Lankan Reconciliation Forum, Sydney, a Tamil raised the question about general Amnesty – so Australian Tamils could travel to Sri Lanka without fear of persecution – starting from the airport. The Sri Lankan Government’s representatives assured the group that there were no grounds for such fears under the new Government. The Australian Government also has confirmed this through its Representative in Colombo. I stated at the meeting that I knew of persons who carried those fears. When asked I say to them words to the effect – ‘it has not happened to me but that does not mean that it would not happen to you.’ I still feel anxious and I pray to Lord Buddha at the airport to prevent the officers from making mistakes and hurt themselves through the Lord’s system. Likewise in Vaddukoddai – I pray that the Government Officers would not act to damage my contribution to Peace and thus continue to invest in lawlessness. All this – without any Australian or Sri Lankan official or politician sharing her/his status with me. I need to do it alone to know the Truth of the ordinary citizen without portfolio.

To protect their minds from disorder in global environments, Diplomats need to be driven by the Truth discovered by them and/or the People they represent.

Appendix - Naan Australian – Chapter 25

[When we were ready to go, Dr. Hayes handed over a report to the Police Officer and looked back at his office as if to see whether anyone could hear him. He walked with us to the door and said that his report says that I did not need to be treated by them but that I needed to be under the supervision of Community Care. I asked him whether he had spoken to my husband and the doctor confirmed that he had endorsed what I had said but had accepted what he the doctor wanted to do. I found the second part a bit difficult to balance. When I rang Param the following day from Mulawa prison’s Brady East unit, Param said that he was very upset when Dr. Hayes rang and had said that I was quite normal and that I had received glowing references from Professor  Bruce Dowton, the UNSW Dean of Medicine and for Dr. Hayes to ring Professor Dowton up first before going further. My husband said to me that Dr. Hayes had told him also that they had the power to force the medication into me if I refused to take it. Param said he asked him not to do that and that I had been cleared as being sane by Prince of Wales psychiatrist – Dr. Peter Vaux.  Param said that he was so upset that he called Dr. Hayes back again and insisted  that I was sane. I realized after listening to Param that if not for Professor Dowton’s glowing references from a high position and my husband’s own position and the strength with which my husband had said it, I would have been placed under the care of  Dr. Hayes who would have forced medication into my body. I thanked Professor Dowton in my mind and heart for his genuine expressions of appreciation. As per my knowledge – Professor Dowton was not contacted by Dr. Hayes. But my belief in Professor Dowton’s endorsement of my higher mind and my sharing of that with my husband, came to my help in a way that was more acceptable to Dr. Hayes than if I had said them myself.  They were the cows with silver bells – m]i kdfdi[ maDkqf.. I felt that that influenced them to not go ahead with their proposed ‘treatment’. That was the value of faith. I had faith in Professor Dowton and Param connected to this and used that faith to influence Dr. Hayes. In other words, Param became Professor Dowton because of that genuine faith.  It is the same faith that I felt in Gandhi and Sai Baba. The time I feel faith in Swami Sai Baba is more than the time I feel faith in anyone else. The reason for this is Swami came to me on 05 November 98  by materializing holy powder – when no one else (including Professor Dowton or Param) seemed to connect to what I was doing and saying and help endorse me to myself for myself. Swami Sai Baba  knew and therefore to me He is God.

I did not respond to Dr. Hayes’ final remarks but quickly got into the Police caged truck where I felt safe. It was close to midnight, but I was alert. We reached Mulawa jail and it was raining on the way. At Mulawa I was informed at the reception that my cell at Brady East was still available. I was happy about that and asked for a copy of the Doctor’s report. The officer was not sure whether he had the authority to give it to me. He said he would leave a note for the supervisor. I was then taken to the Medical unit. After a short wait the officer came back and said I was not going back to Brady. I was taken to another unit which was referred to as IMU. It was a cell worse than the one I had occupied after I was arrested on 29 October 2004. The good thing was Kirlee who was with me at the cell at Local Court was there. I  liked Kirilee because she asked the officer for toilet paper for me even though she did not have when she used the toilet. Kirilee shared her fruit with me that afternoon in the court cell. I slept on the lower rolling bed and Kirilee occupied the bed. Kirilee was upset that someone was coming through the locked door to get her. Kirilee’s  twin sister was murdered and hence Kirilee’s fears. Half way through the night Kirilee was taken to another cell. I continued to focus on myself and started working out strategies to protect myself from becoming  a victim of those horrible people who controlled the system. On the way from Caritas, I was planning on fasting on fruits alone – so as to prevent any contaminated food. I had not drunk anything for hours and had difficulty passing water before going to bed. It was aggravated by the dirty-looking cell with ‘OPEN’ toilets. I covered my face in bed and started crying. That released some of the pain and I felt  stronger. I woke up early (must have been around 4a.m.) and meditated on the Truth I knew. I realized that if I did not desire anything, it was easier not to be controlled by others. This was why Lord Buddha recommended that we renounced desires – for desires are the other side of fears. I thought I was sent to that wing to share a cell with  a person who was hearing voices. Kirilee came back in the morning and we shared more experiences. Kirilee said we might not be allowed to shower in the room where there was no shower curtain but in the community toilet. I was thinking of not having a shower when breakfast arrived. I said I was vegetarian and asked whether I could have fruits. They said no fruits until lunch. I went back to my seat. Kirilee offered me the sultanas in her muesli but I declined.

I was later taken to a psychiatric nurse. Lois was very kind and when I informed Lois about the threat of  medication, Lois said that the Mental Health Act did give that power. On hearing that I had not eaten and was not drinking water, Lois gave me her bottled water. Lois assured me that the officers at Mulawa  would not contaminate my food. Before I left Lois asked me whether I would start eating normally. I said to give me a little time to recover. Lois said I should not be in prison. When the session was over I asked Lois whether I could give her a hug and she said of course. I felt better after the hug and returned to my cell shared with Kirilee. Kirilee said that she had showered in the room but water had stopped before she finished showering. I had asked for tooth paste and brush the previous night but did not get them. I was told to wait until morning. Kirilee asked the officer on my behalf. A little later I was moved to Brady East – to my old cell.  I felt it was due to the influence of Lois. Lois said when she heard my anxieties about changes in my accommodation the previous night, that it happened for some other reason. But I remembered being informed that I was getting my old cell back – before I was taken to the Medical Unit. I had a shower in the new cell and was later transferred with Florence on 08 May 2005.

Today is Mother’s day and is 08 May which is Our Lady of Velaangkanni’s (in India) day too. I was back in my cell with my cell mate Florence Vorhauer, after my family visited me. My son Pradeep said there must be some provision in the Mental Health Act about permission from family before committing a person to mental care. I said that did make sense to me but that Dr. Hayes and other staff did not inform me of any such rights. I said if it was not there it needs to be brought in. I said it was bad enough that I needed my husband’s endorsement even though I was an individual in my own rights, but to not have family and friends’ involvement BEFORE being placed under psychiatric treatment was worse. I said it negated my work for family, institution, community and society. Back in the cell I was talking to Florence who informed me that she was in prison for daring to fight against her local council who in her opinion were acting unlawfully in ordering her to get rid of her chucks. Florence had taken the Council to Court. The Police entered Florence’s residence without a warrant and eventually Florence was arrested and placed in jail under a 4 year sentence. Florence appealed to the Supreme Court. Florence was declared insane and was sent to Long Bay jail for treatment. Florence said that she was held down with her face down, by three men and was injected with medication. Now Florence takes the medication orally.

I know that Our Lady is giving me support through Florence . I consciously thanked Our Lady of Schoentat at Mulgoa for being there for me. Florence shared her experiences with me and urged me to get out of prison through the conditional bail and to not become  victim like herself.  I signed the bail conditions on 10 May and came out. Later I helped Florence release herself out of that prison.]

Children of Thunaivi - unchanged by war

Testing Oru Paanai (One Pot) through Oru Sohru (One Grain)
My last two articles as per my assessment of the new Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Australia – were based on my conclusion  that Mr. Skandakumar was more English than Tamil. I received today reference to Pahana Community Newspaper - Nov 2015 edition with reports of the High Commissioner’s meeting with a section of the Diaspora in Melbourne, Australia. http://www.pahana.com.au/paper/id/65
Given the strong interest from the Community, I went back to the article forwarded to me earlier by a Tamil Community Leader. One of the highlights that I was directed to was the Oru Paanai project to which the High Commissioner also referred at the recent gathering organized by the Sri Lanka Reconciliation Forum – Sydney. As per that article at https://thuppahi.wordpress.com/2012/08/14/oru-paanai-or-one-pot-reaches-out-to-sri-lanka-and-its-north/   :
Oru Paanai or One Pot, reaches out to Sri Lanka and its north
Editor’s Preamble: there are numerous private organisations involved in welfare and philanthropy in Sri Lanka. Some have a reconciliation edge and seek to bring people of different communities together. Some reach across to the people of the north and east in response to the suffering and the underdevelopment that these regions experienced over the past 29 years……..
[an Oru Paanai class under a tree
Or, rather, Jeremy met Skanda — Royalist, cricketer, cricket-administrator in years past and, above all, a Sri Lankan patriot of the moderate kind. And SO, I was led to Oru Paanai or One Pot, which is the brainchild of Drs. Dan Muthuvaloe and Nandhabalan in England. This reconciliation philanthropy is best introduced via Skanda’s private clarification to Jeremy, a Note from Dr. Dan Muthvaloe and some extracts from their official website.
Somasundaram Skandakumar  to Jeremy Liyanage, early August 2012 - Oru Paanai has a wide remit – from feeding children to education and health. Our first concern was with hungry children and ensuring one good midday school meal — to some kids this is the only proper meal for the day, because there is poverty at home. It is a UK based charity (approved ) and I chair the Sri Lankan branch. Last year we fed 20,000 kids in and around 175 schools, and we are now at 30,000 kids in 300 identified schools. Having consolidated our work here and created a reasonably stable financial base for its continuance, we turned our attention to Education….a crying need in many parts and the only avenue/weapon against the trap of poverty and hunger.
During the war many schools were not functioning and many students were displaced several times. The environment was not conducive for education. The children were living in fear and apprehension. There are kids who are 10, 12 years old in the Vanni who are unable to read or write in their mother tongue. So we ventured into the supplementary tutorials for o-level students in deprived rural areas. I personally sponsor one such school at Rs. 14,500 a month and there are others doing likewise. If you know of individuals or organisations wishing to sponsor one such school we could identify it for you. My Dad’s 100th birth anniversary fell on the 22nd of July and we contributed a further Rs 100,000 to OP in his name to be used for an identified school in the Vaddukoddai area , as his ancestral home was directly opposite Jaffna College.
We also have an involvement with the school for deaf children in Kaithady who need hearing aids and teachers skilled to teach and help them. Dr Tony Sirimanne, a renowned professor in the field in the UK, has a direct involvement in it along with other eminent professionals as Dr Ranjit Thambyrajah and Deutram Thambapillai all residing in the UK.I will send you some pictures from a seminar held at Kaithady recently. Jeremy has responded….. let’s see if I can twist Kushil Gunasekera’s arm to persuade  Murali to be present at the final in Mannar.!! Cheers, Skanda
]
Paanai in Tamil means Pot. There is a saying in Tamil – that one Pot of rice is tested through one grain/Oru Paanai Sohtritku Oru Sohru  patham. Accordingly, I tested Oru Paanai’s credentials through the grain that I was exposed to. In terms of projects Vaddukoddai is my one grain of Service to prevent future unjust wars in Sri Lanka. The project must uphold the Standards of my service any time anywhere. Mr. Skandakumar refers to his father’s ancestral home in Vaddukoddai as follows:
[My Dad’s 100th birth anniversary fell on the 22nd of July and we contributed a further Rs 100,000 to OP in his name to be used for an identified school in the Vaddukoddai area , as his ancestral home was directly opposite Jaffna College.]

Even as I read the above this morning, my mind slipped back to last evening when I was teaching a young female student who was idling after her University Entrance exam. – while awaiting appropriate  placement. The student is from the Toddy Tapper village of Thunaivi and the place where she was receiving her education was Australian Tamil Management Service - diagonally opposite Jaffna College –which means we are now next door neighbors of Mr. Skandakumar’s father. I have already made arrangements for this young lady and some others like her to be enrolled to follow Accounting classes conducted by Jaffna College – Undergraduate Section in Jaffna Town – which is also the head office for my Alma Mater – the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka. Given that Professor Veerasingham Prem Kumar of Singapore and his wife Madam Thavamani who contributes to development of  women’s dignity through  Soroptimist International, had sent me their regular donation for Educational projects at that time of making the above arrangements  – I allocated funds out of that for these new students – to be given on loan basis returnable when they started earning. The Provider of Funds and the Receiver of Funds were thus merged through this Australian Human Resource.

The only school in that area is Jaffna College and unless Mr. Skandakumar’s father contributed to Jaffna College the connection between the Provider and Beneficiary is not elevated to invoke the blessings of Mr. Skandakumar’s father. My father-in-law Mr. Nallathamby Subramaniam did contribute not only money but also to the high status of Jaffna College by sending his children there for education. To the young ones in Thunaivi – my husband is Aiyah or Sir and I am Amma or Madam. Not so to Mr. Subramaniam’s grandchildren of Vaddukoddai town who are now in Australia and Colombo  and have been ‘dismissed’ by us for failing to respect their grandfather’s investment in higher education – the most valuable status being evident through my husband who won the best Science student prize in the final year at Jaffna College. The grandchildren got the money opportunities through our sponsorship to Australia and we inherited the status that my husband’s father had developed through his higher interests. It’s a bit like Mr. M.A. Sumanthiran going to Colombo and Mr. C.V.Wigneswaran coming to Jaffna.

As I trained this young lady I kept thinking of Professor Higgins in My Fair Lady. The way Professor Higgins highlighted the connection between language and class – I highlighted that this young lady did not know her Hindu culture – even though she had high grades in that subject at University Entrance level. I myself did not learn Hinduism formally but I believe/d in Hindu Philosophy. Hence when the young lady was in a hurry to repeat English words at the same speed at which  they were corrected by me – and got it all mixed up – I gave her a lesson on Sivapuranam – the special verse in this instance being ‘Praise be to the Feet of the Lord who kills speed / Veham Kedduththaanda Venthanadi Velha’. This was because I fully believe that the Lord Himself became my Guru – and gave me a deeper understanding of Hindu Philosophy – in preparation for my work in Sri Lanka’s war damaged areas. Like with Prince Arjun in Indian Epic Mahabharatham in whose mind Lord  Krishna placed the Hindu Bible – Bhagawath Geetha – right in the middle of the battlefield – I had my lessons right in the middle of my Administrative battles at the University of NSW. The main lesson was to do our DUTY as per the Position taken by us. My first Service Opportunity was to structure Tamil Health Administration of global standards and the invitation came from a Yoga Swami devotee in 2003 through a UNDP project. If I therefore accept Madam status from a student – I have to ensure that I had higher knowledge of a subject that was common to both of us. This is NOT English for Thunaivi or even Vaddukkoddai but Hinduism – as Buddhism is to Sinhalese. The mind order from our inner Truth is developed through Belief. Language is the outer cover through which such belief is presented.

Again the mind goes to  Lord Krishna who  upholds Arjuna’s wife Throupathi’s chastity  who was being stripped of her clothes in Public in the King’s Court. Later when asked by Throupathi as to why Krishna took so long to respond to her call – Lord Krishna reminded her that she kept referring to him as per His positions allocated by others. But when he called out as the Indweller of her Heart / Iruthaya Vaasa – he came immediately. This means that those who have already brought the Truth within themselves would be protected by the Truth instantaneously. The subjective system fails when we do not have such indwellers – the reason often being quick benefits from outsiders.
Status is the ‘form’ through which a lower investor could connect to the higher investor. English is ‘foreign’ to most young ones in this area. http://www.austms.org/news_and_events/Thunaivi_devt.pdf. My  parallel of the above tribute by Mr. Skandakumar to his fathers is:
[Thunaivi is a small village within the District of Vattukottai in Northern Sri Lanka – made up largely of descendants of those by tradition were toddy-tappers. Today, many young ones of Thunaivi  have put themselves through formal education and are seeking higher standards of living.
Owner-Managers of Australian Tamil Management Service are part of the Community of Thunaivi due to their ancestral Temple at Thunaivi-Sangarathai junction. This Vairavar-Kali temple was founded by Manickam Aachi of Arali of the family of Dharma Udayar.  The temple was taken care of by Mr. Visvalingam Navaratnam – the youngest son of Manickam Aachi, his wife Sironmani and their children.  During the war years, Mr. Shanmugalingam, nephew of Mr. Paramasivam who married into the Navaratnam family, oversaw the affairs of the Temple, until Mr. Shanmugalingam passed away on 18 July 2006. The People of Thunaivi wrote and asked us as follows on 09.09.2005:
Respected owner of Thunaivi-Kali temple,
We the residents residing close to the Kali temple, in the property of ‘Maavaddi Addaikalamthottam Kanthaswami Temple’ write to you as follows:
We live under the line of poverty and have a difficult life. For 40 years we have lived in this Maavaddi Addaikalamthottam Kanthaswami Temple’ property in a crowded manner. We do not have lawful access to transport. We use the Kali temple access to access the main road. Now, NECORD organization is Reconstructing Thunaivi village. If you would donate part of Kali Temple land for a path that would join your access path, we could have electricity, transport and water facilities through this program. Therefore we are asking you kindly, humbly and prayerfully to allocate land for us to have a lane.
Accordingly, land was allocated for this Public purpose. ]
Instead of  donating money – the High Commissioner with Government status ought to have personally visited places like Thunaivi. I did ask the previous High Commissioner – a Military person  and he said he would come. Later he called me personally and explained that he had been allocated another urgent task and therefore could not make it as promised. Status sharing is essential for a changeover to Zero Base Management.
This lack of proficiency in English in   Southern Sri Lanka was highlighted during discussions of the Sri Lanka Reconciliation Forum in the presence of the High Commissioner. That was to negate both rebellions.  To my mind, this kind of ‘quick’ and ‘convenient’ measures as per the mind of the senior – (in this instance a lady whose children were proficient in all three languages) – leads to alienation once the junior knows the senior to be false. This is how Sinhala Only and Buddhism first which were legalized led to rebellion. A true believer in the value does not need the aid of external law.

Democracy was recognized due to majority citizens not being able to genuinely look up to their seniors. When we do not SEE ‘status’ through which we  are able ‘think’ and even dream that  we would one day become seniors – we lose higher order in the mind. Hence, in Democracy,  we have ‘objectively measurable outcomes’ at junior levels as per the ‘position’ - replacing ‘status’ of the person. This system, to work successfully requires the following essential criteria:

1.      The placement of ceiling at the highest level of subjective relationship – as senior-junior.
2.      One party does not ‘tell’ the other as confirmation of that ceiling of status – confirming closure of the subjective system.
3.      Both parties become Equal in status and are assessed from then on through the Objectively measurable outcomes produced by them independently for Public Consumption –for example the Vaddukoddai Resolution
4.      The producer does not ‘enforce’ the outcomes on the other – for example (1) the Laws banning declarations of Separation beliefs such as the Vaddukoddai Resolution and (2) the LTTE seeking to enforce its outputs on People and (3) both JVP and the LTTE threatening the Government to take up those senior positions with status.

The Business Unit approach is recommended in Democracy so that the independent outcomes of both parties could be marketed on Equal footing. But Seniors who invested in ‘Yes Sir, No Madam’ system would tend to not recognize the other as being of Equal status – due to attachment to the benefits of the old system. I address our Masons and General Laborers as Sir/Aiyah (for retirees) or by Name (for Activists) to bring their allocation of status to me and my associates -  to Zero base.

The Sri Lankan High Commissioner was addressed as his Excellency by the moderators of the meeting of the Sri Lanka Reconciliation Forum. The ‘Panel’ was also seated in the special row in front of us. The reminder was made that we followed Chatham House Rules through which only the details of the issues discussed could be published but not the names or other particular identity of an individual or a group. But the moment one is addressed without protest as his Excellency and/or has special seating – the protection of Chatham House Rules, does not cover that individual.

It is ok to represent only a section of a community provided we are transparent about it. One who represents the whole of Sri Lanka or Australia – needs to be committed to the system of Democracy – the stated system of the current Government/s. As per this grain – the Pot is still Autocratic in both my Nations.

Gajalakshmi Paramasivam – 03 November  2015

Reconciliation Facility

The Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Australia announced at the recent gathering of the Sri Lanka Reconciliation Forum, Sydney – that the Australian Government has promised some funding for Reconciliation in Sri Lanka. Given that the Forum is Australian and given that many Australians of Sri Lankan origin are actively working to raise the value of our Sri Lankan Heritage – I believe that the Australian Government has the responsibility to not directly empower the Government above the Citizen, in a country where rebellion against the Government is a continuous expression of dissatisfaction.  Given that Australians of Sri Lankan origin have actively worked towards Reconciliation or Diversity as the case may be – and done so without major conflict - the Australian Government’s allocation of Resources ought to be to train the Sri Lankan Government on how to become a Reconciliation Facility.  It could of course start with us Australian citizens training the Sri Lankan Government’s Representatives in this. Otherwise the Australian Government could be contributing to the next rebellion in Sri Lanka.

A retired senior officer in the Sri Lankan armed forces wrote to me in response to my yesterday’s article ‘Remembering Tamil Heroes’ :

[There are people in Germany who still praise Hitler. VP gives Hitler a close run as a beast.

What about caste? Your views?
Are the lower castes still not allowed to bathe at high caste wells or is it globalized now?
What about the dress of low caste women. Can they wear jackets with their sarees now?
Yes a cancer hospital in  the South would upset people like you.. Naturally.]

To my mind the first part was un-reconcilable and hence I took it as an expression of preserving  Diversity. I responded to the rest as follows:

Water Facilities
At our Temple in Thunaivi – higher caste always provided water facilities to all. They were not happy for users who were mostly of lower caste to abuse the well by failing to take certain measures of hygiene. To the extent it was hygiene based – caste now is part of the secular system. Status is accepted when attributed by the lower caste. That is a facility that our family actively provides in Vaddukoddai. Would you allow a street person to just walk into your garden and use the tap? The fundamental principles are the same. There are abusers in this system as well as that system. Hence the ‘private’ protection.  Can you just walk into the President’s house?

Dress Code
Young ones in  lower caste, dress more daringly and more attractively than I did at when I was their age. At Kathirgamam the women of highest status – do not wear tops even today. They are Sinhalese!
Cancer Hospital
If the reasoning is that I am Tamil – I accept that.  I have a duty to be upset because – it dilutes the value of Reconciliation program

It is perhaps not very easy for the average investor in Democracy to appreciate the above structure. To my mind, Project approach in Democracy replaces ‘Status’ approach in Autocracy. Most of us need to ‘see’ to be able to think. Under the Subjective system of Autocracy – this was facilitated through status. Under the Objective system of Democracy this is facilitated through Independent Production of Outcomes as per Positions taken. This includes the Citizen’s rights to interpret the Law AND Express it without disturbance by the officials.

The responder above, refers to the Caste system. This is now a weakness in the Tamil system not because the Caste system itself is/was wrong but because it was abused by those less committed to employment principles and values than was required by their higher status. During the above mentioned discussion organized by the Sri Lankan Reconciliation Forum – there were questions about getting rid of the PTA – Prevention of Terrorism Act . To my mind, the questions were raised in support of Tamils. A legal expert of Sinhalese origin quietly confirmed at the end of the discussion that the PTA on its own was not abusive and that it had all the protection needed and hence there was no ‘sunset clause’ included. To my mind, that was a Sri Lankan speaking and not a Sinhalese. This person through his understanding of the Sinhalese mind,  on a previous occasion, identified with my reference to ( abuse of ) caste system also contributing to the Tamil rebellion. But a strongly ethnic minded Sinhalese suppressed further discussions on this stating that the Southern rebellion was due to lack of employment. It’s not the policies or laws but the mind that uses it or abuses it that matters here. We have Equal Opportunity Laws here in Australia, but majority do not ‘practice’ it consciously. The principles are built into institutional values. The Government balances the deficiency through the welfare system.

Tamil Activists in that gathering raised questions about the banning of  Tamil Diaspora organizations and  individuals by the previous Government of Sri Lanka. To my mind THAT banning was an abuse of power and one without a sunset clause. As a Tamil associating with fellow Tamils irrespective of their legal status – unless needed by the POSITION taken by me at that time – I am also affected by the listing. This is because one does not know how such ruling  which is without protection and without sunset clause would be interpreted by the officer at the airport. I myself pray to Lord Buddha to help the Buddhists identify with my Truth. I thus invoke Article 9 of the Sri Lankan Constitution. So far I have not been found fault with. But when others more closely associated with preserving Tamil Diversity share their concerns with me – I acknowledge that there is still that risk for them – not only because of the officers – but also because these Tamils do not EXPECT the officer to value Article 9 and uphold Buddha Sasana. Article 9 states:

[Buddhism.
9. The Republic of Sri Lanka shall give to Buddhism the foremost place and accordingly it shall be the duty of the State to protect and foster the Buddha Sasana, while assuring to all religions the rights granted by Articles 10 and 14(1)(e).]

To uphold this at the airport and other official areas of Administration  – we need the 50:50 principle espoused by Tamil Leader the Hon G.G.Ponnambalam. We therefore need a pool of officers of all other religions likely to use the facilities, the numbers being Equal to  Buddhist  officers manning those positions at that time – i.e. – Measure for Measure.
The above mentioned retired army officer has confirmed the continued risk from Sinhalese officials who are not yet Sri Lankan. The mind to mind connection happens naturally at the lowest as well as the highest levels. Government to Government connection therefore needs to be matched by People to People connection – so we become the UN in Australia and/or  Sri Lanka.

As per Stated Policy – the Sri Lankan Government has the responsibility to take Project approach . This requires not throwing away the lessons learnt through the war but becoming a ‘facility’ for those who followed the law above the level of the government. One of the groups banned by the previous Sri Lankan Government was the Global Tamil Forum based in the U.K. But the current Government is reported to have invited the President of that group to go to Sri Lanka. THAT is a continuity of breakdown in law and order. The citizen / victim could interpret the ruling independently and travel as per such interpretation. But one in Government position has to first reverse the ruling through due process before extending invitations that would have been unlawful as per the previous occupier/s of that position. By failing to take such measures – the Government is rebelling against itself. One who has firm position should not take de facto status. If a government does that – that government confirms that it was / is the root cause of rebellion.

During a recent conflict with the Electricity Board officials in Northern Sri Lankan – when I was threatened with disconnection of supply to our seminar room at our Vaddukoddai training center – I claimed that  when my neighbor was able to use the One connection for his two businesses within the same building – I saw no reason why I could not do likewise. The young official then said words to the effect ‘If they are acting illegally – would you also act illegally?’ That brought a smile to my face on this side of the phone. I responded by stating words to the effect ‘I am working out your Policy – on the basis of what you have allowed to prevail over the years. I have not been shown any written Common Policy confirming your threat to disconnect service to me; nor that my actions are in breach of the customs of this area (Vaddukoddai) at this time.’ That brought the officer and his deputy to the premises for the first time and they withdrew the threat of disconnection! This could not have been achieved had I spoken to the guy in English – through a system of Hybrid languages proposed by a senior member which seemed to be well received by those groomed by the British system.

Citizens who have practiced the law above the level of the Government Officer on the other side – must be facilitated to act as per their Truth.

A White Australian legal expert raised the issue of detainees adversely assessed by ASIO largely on the basis of the Sri Lankan Government’s assessment. Now that we are getting to know about the abuse of Law by the previous Government of Sri Lanka – the Australian Government has the moral obligation to reassess these detainees after discounting the previous charges by that failure rate of the previous Government.

We Australians have ‘imported’ Sri Lankans for our own purposes. Our first duty is to become a facility to them – be it for Reconciliation or Diversity – as per their Truth as Sri Lankans. I have done this with members of our family ‘imported’ by us to Australia. Accordingly they are in the Diversity Group and we are in the Reconciliation Group. In my yesterday’s article I stated:

[The High Commissioner made a statement that it was only his conscience that he would take with himself when the call came from the Lord. To me it is the Truth that we Share – i.e. - take, as well as leave behind. That is the way of absolute values/powers.]

Like rebirth - Immigration especially through refugee process is also dying as citizens of one country and becoming citizens of another. It’s only when we bring our Truth and nothing but our Truth that we are of value to both our Nations. In Australia that Truth could be known only through an officer who has practiced the applicable laws above the level needed by his position. A policy based on the discoveries of such an Australian would lead to just rulings in Administration. Just rulings are continuously supported by  the system of Natural Justice. We would recognize this only when we pause from time to time to learn from our Experiences.

When we are young – our brains must regulate our body – so the body is trained to be healthy. But as we age – we need to pause and listen to what the body also says through experience, so that we do not push the body beyond its limits through new theories. Likewise the Government and the Citizen. The latter part of  Article 9 of the Sri Lankan Constitution which states “while assuring to all religions the rights granted by Articles 10 and 14(1)(e).

These rights are the parallels of Equal Opportunity Policies of Democratic Nations. But to put that into practice in Sri Lanka – would be to damage the bodies of all Sri Lankans of British origin to whom English is the first language, which came to Sri Lankan through Christians. They are without apparent roots in Sri Lanka but assimilate more comfortably in Western Nations including Australia when it had White-Australia policy. In Sri Lanka, even English Law is applied by those who feel little connection to the origins of English Law. Where Diversity is stronger than Commonness – Democracy without Devolution becomes a White Elephant – as the Sri Lankan Government has become.

Gajalakshmi Paramasivam – 02 November  2015

Remembering Tamil Heroes

Today is All Soul’s Day and the anniversary of my Mother’s passing away in Canada where it is 01 November today. I had just returned to Australia, from my service to the victims of the 2009 Battle in Sri Lanka when I learnt that my mother was in hospital. During the previous admissions to hospital my mother would send word through my brother to ask us not to come but to go about our duties. This time however, my mother gave out no such instructions. I felt intuitively that my mother needed me and I went without further calculations and paid my last respects to my mother. I believe that I was able to hear this inner voice – because I had completed the relationship with my mother, through my position as child. I believe that when such souls pray, such prayer  has powers beyond time and place limitations. Time stands still – as depicted by Dancing Shiva kicking Kaalan (Time) under His right foot. They are global. Place being stilled is depicted by Meditating Shiva. They are local.

This morning when I read the following I felt disappointed in Karuna – the Eastern LTTE Leader about his boss Prabhakaran:
Prabhakaran was a good man, but he had no knowledge of globalization” Karuna as reported by The New Indian Express.

I believe that others give form to our own contributions and therefore by criticizing Prabhakaran out of context – Karuna was diminishing his own origin. That origin may be wrong to others – but Karuna has promoted himself to the current status from that origin. His weakness is that he did not complete his relationship with his origin to become independent of that origin. Hence he continues to use that origin actively as a relation. He thus confirms his indebtedness.

During last evening’s  Sri Lanka Reconciliation Forum, Sydney,  meeting -  to welcome the new Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Australia - Mr. Somasundaram Skandakumar – the question was asked as to whether Karuna’s group would be disarmed by the new government? The question came from a person I recognized to be Sinhalese. According to the above mentioned news report:
[Prabhakaran was livid with Karuna for persuading his chief negotiator, Anton Balasingham, to sign the December 5, 2002 “Oslo Declaration” which had committed the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam to “exploring the possibility of finding a political solution based on a federal structure within a united Sri Lanka.”]

The Government representatives at last evening’s  meeting confirmed that Karuna was armed by the previous government and that he was no longer part of that Political party. They failed to give recognition that Karuna was now part of the TULF described as follows in the Wikipedia:

[On May 4, 1972 several Tamil political groups, including the All Ceylon Tamil Congress, formed the Tamil United Front (TUF). The Federal Party joined the TUF in 1976. The TUF changed its name to the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) and adopted a demand for an independent state to be known as the "secular, socialist state of Tamil Eelam". In the first general election contested by the TULF, the 21 July 1977 election in which the UNP won by a landslide, the TULF won 6.40% of the popular vote and 18 out of 168 seats in the Sri Lankan parliament, including all 14 seats in the Northern Province.]

This confirms that the SOUL of the Tamil Fight for Self-Governance through a United Front was originated by the All Ceylon Tamil Congress led by the Hon G.G. Ponnambalam. The Hon G.G. Ponnambalam was the Sri Lankan founder of the principles of globalization which requires Equal Opposition to manifest Completed Subjective Relationships. Hence his call for 50:50 – 50% of the Parliamentary seats to be for majority Sinhalese and the other 50% to be allocated to coalition of minorities. This was / is needed until Sri Lanka moves substantially  towards Democracy -  driven by Objectively measurable outcomes and Transparency in Subjective decision making processes.

At yesterday’s meeting, the High Commissioner as the Government’s representative spoke highly of the pair -  Nathan Sivagananathan & Sarinda Unamboowe who raised millions to establish the cancer hospital at Thellippalai in Northern Sri Lanka. There was however little identity with the contribution made by Tamil Leader the Hon G.G.Ponnambalam – towards Sri Lanka being the big project.

To most of us, driven by Common Principles rather than our personal Truth - knowing whether we are using the pathway of Programs or the pathway of Projects is important to complete our work towards higher or wider values respectively. The above walk was part of a program of Reconciliation – initiated by South to reach out to the North. The subsequent declaration that the next walk would be to establish a similar hospital in South – damaged the Reconciliation Program Value of that walk to make it a project.

At last night’s meeting, we were informed that the Government was planning on Village based project-development. I was myself taken to Thunaivi village in Vaddukoddai district through our family temple shown in the picture above. The first request from the People based on their past difficulties was for an allocation of part of the Temple land to connect them to the main road – the Navali Road that leads to Jaffna Town. Our family happily agreed to this donation. Thus we became part of the Government of that area.

This was however spoilt when a local  NGO sought Land to construct a building as part of  War-Reconstruction through NECORD -  North East Community Restoration and Development (Sri Lanka) and we donated a block for that purpose also. That building is now largely idle and is at time used stealthily by some locals. Due to our connections to the origins of the Land from our ancestors – we picked up the early warning signs. We have since then installed Security Cameras and Solar Energy (so they would not deny the lighting needed for the cameras). It’s a long process in which we keep replenishing Security Cameras and lights that are damaged by some locals. When we complained to the Police (largely Sinhalese at the Vaddukoddai Police Station) they wanted ‘proof’ and rightly so due to lack of local intelligence. But to their credit they demonstrated cooperation with us – by visiting the place and warning young ones who were idling at our temple. We thus shared with them the opportunity to exercise their authority through identifiable damages in that area caused by locals.

Even at last night’s meeting the issue of armed officers’ presence in North was raised by a Tamil Activist. The problem would be if the powers were to go to locals – then it is highly likely that they would not be able to ‘see’ anything wrong with what happens – but would leave it to the People of Thunaivi to manage themselves. Except for  contributions from some generous souls like our Engineer friends Santhiragasan & Thiruketheeswaran and our close family – all work above has been/is out of our past/ongoing retirement savings and mostly through our Human Resources. It therefore has the work Energy through which we have possession of that wealth visible to others. Not so the Government that received the donation of the Land on behalf of the People.

Thunaivi was considered a high risk zone due to the rough nature of those folks. Unless such villages are ‘adopted’ as homes by Service Providers – projects within such areas would breed illegal activities which would seem quite normal to those who do not go very far from those villages. Prabhakaran – the LTTE Leader was from such a village. It would be wrong to measure him in a global context only. Thunaivi folks themselves said to me at the beginning of our relationship – that they were a very backward area. They have difficulty relating even to Jaffna Customs – leave alone Colombo Customs. The High Commissioner confirmed that he himself was now more Colombo than Northern Sri Lanka. One of the first reports about him informed us that he was of Vaddukoddai origin:
[Somasundaram Skandakumar who is from Vaddukoddai, Jaffna served George Steuart Group of Companies for 34 years. He was the Managing Director of the company for three years and also the Group Chairman for eight years. - Tamil Diplomat]

Yet, there I was as part of discussion group organized by the Reconciliation Forum – representing the most needy folks in Vaddukoddai area – without any connection being made by the Government’s group. I tried giving leads – by referring to my knowledge that children in Vaddukoddai were taking private tuition in Sinhalese; that there were events confirming break down in law and order in Jaffna Town and most importantly – that the folks lacked self-confidence because we seniors abandoned them and left them  to fend for themselves and this has resulted in them not being able to project too far ahead. The lateral spread is as wide as the depth of the root.

Should I then be saying the other side of Karuna’s claim –that ‘the current President whose praise was sung by the Government team was a good man but did not know much about the People through whose real need he came to Power?

The High Commissioner made a statement that it was only his conscience that he would take with himself when the call came from the Lord. To me it is the Truth that we Share – i.e. - take, as well as leave behind. That is the way of absolute values/powers. The voluntary contribution to Independence / Self Governance - whether given form through the LTTE/JVP or the Government – is never lost. It will take rebirth in different forms as per its original Creator. Let’s therefore connect to the Truth in every village and give form to that Truth AFTER we become one of them. That would be then Program and go direct to Policy. SHOWING more than that through numbers and dollar values – would generate more idleness inviting the devil. Completed Truth will manifest Itself whenever there is a need. Where the origin was based on Truth for the benefit of the whole  – that manifestation would be the God’s Homes. Where the origin was for selfish purposes and falsely propagated – it would manifest as Devil’s workshops.

Gajalakshmi Paramasivam – 01 November  2015

UN Lacking in Shakthi/Intuitive  Power

“We firmly believe that the Charter enshrines our common values as human beings, which unite us in diversity beyond our differences of language, culture or religion, today as 70 years ago.” UN70 Resolution. - http://www.un.org/apps/news/story.asp?NewsID=52360#.VjUkOLbovIV

In terms of Sri Lanka did this happen? If yes through whom? The following would give us some guidance on this:

[Mr. Ban noted that the UN Charter was written “deliberately, in the voice, not of governments, but of 'we the peoples,'” adding that it was a Charter for everyone, particularly the poor, the vulnerable and the marginalized.]

True. But like with any leadership it would work only for those who invest in the core values of the UN.  I applied for the UN Secretary General’s position as one of the ‘People’. But I was informed that I needed to go through the Australian Government – headed at that time by Mr. John Howard against whom I had already taken action as per my Lower Common position as ‘migrant’. It was NOT the UN that upheld my claim but God – who did not prevent Mr. Howard being present during the 9/11 experience.

As I keep stating – I would any day have the EXPERIENCE – rather than the status or money. But once we act – we have the responsibility to complete the structure of the People. Within the UN Mr. Ban Ki Moon’s position was not as part of the People but as part of the Government. Mr. Ban Ki Moon explains his experience as follows:

[He also referred to his personal experiences with the UN when he was growing up in South Korea.
“I know first-hand the power and the value of the UN blue. When war came to Korea, I lost my home, my school, all I knew. But help came, bearing the United Nations flag.”]
Like the Sri Lankan Rebels – Mr. Ban Ki Moon also wanted to be part of the Government carrying the official entitlement to carry the Blue Flag which automatically separated him from the beneficiaries. Mr. Ban Ki Moon is reported to have stated:

[“We have brought freedom to millions, dismantling colonialism, defeating apartheid and defending human rights for all, regardless of race, religion, nationality, gender or sexual orientation,”]

No one can ‘bring’ freedom to another. The UN’s role is to Facilitate. To my mind, ‘bringing’ means it has firm physical boundaries as in ‘commodity’. When one formulates the contribution as per the contribution’s outer form – it becomes give and receive/take rather than ‘sharing’. Sharing is at formless state.

Mr. Ban Ki Moon is reported to have stated also “Our enterprise is not perfect. Violence, poverty, ill-health and abuse plague far too many people, especially women and girls.”

The reason that came immediately to my mind was that there has never been a lady Secretary General in the UN or an Equal POSITION demonstrating gender Equality. As a woman who has often taken second place to a man – despite having made deeper contribution to a particular institution / relationship – I am able to identify with the above reasoning which also fits in with the Institution of the People structure as stated. There needs to be a true woman leader within UN – who would have developed Intuitive Power of  Shakthi (Energy) – to intuitively empower and facilitate other women from the People’s side. This obviously was not the case. In the alternative there ought to have been a position demonstrating such sharing at the top.

A structure must represent the contribution made to the core-purpose of an institution which is made also by victims of the government who do not retaliate. Positions in democracy facilitate for a person to contribute through the position instead of the person in leadership position.

Recently, a fair section  of Tamil Community publicly honored Ms Thamilini who was the head of Women’s Political wing within the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam). As I pointed out on the basis of my direct experience with the LTTE  through a UNDP project – there was no ‘shared’ leadership at the top of LTTE, for women. Hence I did not participate in the Public memorial ceremony but mourned privately for the LTTE lady who was sidelined as part of the LTTE. A group that positioned itself as a freedom fighter group – had the responsibility to demonstrate its commitment to Gender Equality through its position structure at the top – be it the LTTE or the UN. Otherwise they are entitled to claim that they are liberating Men Only but using women also, for that purpose.

About  UN’s contribution - to Sri Lanka - under the leadership of Mr. Ban Ki Moon IVN states- : http://ivn.us/2015/10/30/u-n-s-70th-anniversary-time-consider-legacy-reform/

[Under the tenure of Secretary-General Ban-Ki Moon, the U.N. has been largely ineffective in resolving major disputes or holding violators of international law accountable. His tenure is notably marked by an inversion of two principles laid out by the second secretary-general, Sweden’s Dag Hammarskjöld, who affirmed that “integrity in the sense of respect for law and respect for truth” must override concerns of diplomatic neutrality or political expediency.
This preference for the latter over the former was notable in the comments of Moon’s special adviser on the prevention of genocide, Francis Deng, who assured Sri Lanka’s U.N. ambassador that he would not raise in public the Sri Lankan government’s mass killing of civilians in its conflict with the separatist Tamil Tigers.
A leaked cable shows that Deng preferred to rely on behind-the-scenes diplomacy to resolve the conflict and alleviate the humanitarian crisis, since he believed pressing the Security Council to take action in Sri Lanka would have met stiff resistance from China and Russia.
An internal probe revealed in November 2012 that, as with previous investigations, the U.N.’s handling of the civil war in Sri Lanka exposed “systemic failureby the entire organization, ranging from offices in Sri Lanka to the Security Council to the secretary-general himself.
The report especially condemned the lack of public pressure on the Sri Lankan government, stating that U.N. officials – contrary to Hammarskjöld’s message to civil servants about respecting the law and the truth – failed to “stand up for the rights of people they were mandated to assist.]

Facilitating the People includes helping them see their Truth. My article ‘Sri Lankan Tree of Sovereignty’ highlighted that the 1983 riots were carried out by the People.  One Tamil Diaspora leader wrote in response to my claim ''In 1983 – the then Sri Lankan Government headed by President Jayawardene reacted to the LTTE which killed 13 Sri Lankan soldiers.'':

[Sorry, 1983 pogrom was planned well ahead of the ''13 soldiers'' incident.
Petrol cans and accessories and govt vehicles were ordered, voters' lists were prepared and thugs were readied months ahead. JRJ even gave a well-known interview to UK Telegraph on 11 July 1983: ''I don't care for the lives of Tamils'']

To this I responded:

Thank you for the response. You say:
[JRJ even gave a well-known interview to UK Telegraph on 11 July 1983: ''I don't care for the lives of Tamils'']

In that same interview he is reported to have stated:
I am not worried about the opinion of the Tamil people … now we cannot think of them, not about the lives or their opinions … the more you put pressure on the North, the happier the Sinhalese people will be here … Really if I starve the Tamils out, the Sinhalese people will be happy.”

That also confirms the mindset of JR.  The LTTE opened the doors and gave him the excuse. JR – as per my assessment was showing signs of fear – of a man who lacked the confidence to lead Buddhists. If we have not manifested our side in a military manner – it would have been more clearly like the 1958 and 1977 riots. The latter in which I was also a victim - happened BEFORE the  new Constitution.  The Constitution was an expression of panic to TULF becoming the Leading Opposition in Parliament.

The above leader was taking a top-down approach. I concluded that that was because of his investment in the LTTE who took the position of de-facto government and was NOT for the People.  In contrast – a Sinhalese media person with common experience – demonstrated deep identity with my message – and highlighted my 2011 article ‘Don’t Get Mad; Get Even’ - http://www.srilankaguardian.org/2011/03/dont-get-mad-get-even.html

We make plans for the Country and the Institutions that we are heads of. These could be through ‘knowledge’ and/or through our ‘experience’. Where the contribution through experience is greater than through knowledge – that person is part of the driving force. That is how women often have deeper intuition about male headed families with high status. Once woman also is seen as an equal leader – this intuition is often lost to the family. This is a loss through democracy. Yesterday, when our son said that our granddaughter wanted to come to Sydney from Melbourne for her University studies – I said ‘She has to either pay board or she has to accept me as her boss’. My son accepted the latter – as was expected from him who has had the real experience of mother’s intuitive leadership – something he actively rejected in his younger days. A woman who performs at the highest standards of the family/institution but has the lower position has the best of both worlds – the experience at the higher level and the Common membership without needing active thinking and restructures. Truth does the restructures and the mother identifies with it.  Likewise minorities who perform at the highest standards as per their POSITION and not as per the individual/s in other positions in the family / institution.

To be harmonious, a nation needs to include its Truth in its Plans from which Budgets must flow. If Article 9 in the Sri Lankan Constitution – which gives preference to Buddhism - is based on Truth – then Sinhala Only as the official language is also right and Sri Lanka needs to be accepted as Mono-cultural  State. It’s like man-headed UN. Those who seek devolution are accepting that status. But as Norwegian Leader Erik Solheim is reported to have emphasized – if Tamils have to ‘fight’ for their earned status – they must consciously ‘reject’ devolution but take their earned positions as per THEIR assessment of THEIR contribution to the institution they are seen to be part of – be it Tamil Eelam as defined by LTTE and other armed groups with STATED purpose or Sri Lankan Nation. The two should not be indiscriminately mixed.

Tamil leaders often claim that young Tamils resorted to arms because Sathya Graham failed. It is doubtful that they asked themselves whether they were actually following Gandhi or using Gandhi’s name for their own purposes. Gandhi would never have joined an armed group of militants. Hence from the moment the LTTE was ‘included’ by Politicians – they ‘lost’ the value of Truth / Sathyam. If, like women in majority Tamil homes headed by men – we had accepted the lower position but performed at the highest level – equal to or higher than the man/majority – we would have been the real victors. We still are in various parts of the Community - due to those like myself who took that lower position. If Tamil women had fought for Equal position instead of Equal rights – we would have been a community plagued by Domestic Violence. We differ in structure from the Indian woman due to Thesawalamai which facilitates Equal position for women. LTTE failed to appreciate Thesawalamai.

The problem with the Sinhalese is more People related than the problem with the Tamils. The LTTE took an institutional ‘position’ as did the JVP. But not so the rioters. All civil riots including the  1983 pogrom happened due to this lack of structure at the lower levels of Sinhalese community. This kind of deterioration happens often due to one system being used for internal status and another for external benefits. To my mind, the 2009 behavior of the soldiers was also due to this and it brought shame to those leaders of the armed forces who did act as per their positions when they were in active employment. To be fair to the LTTE  leadership it was very strict with its cadre and the acceptance of such discipline flows from the natural structures of the Tamil Community – based on the true values of our Common life. Tamil civilians did not riot in the streets of Colombo. But if we do not include OUR experience in our policies – but are driven by what others – including South Africans got – we would soon lose the firm institutional values that we have invested in as a Community. Saving those values must take priority over fights for Equal position as the Sinhalese to ‘show’ outsiders.

As Rena - an Australian of Greek origin said when I was with NSW Health Service - 'The best man for the job is a woman'
