CYPRUS & SRI LANKA

A young Australian Tamil mother who is now a homemaker shared her pain with me – in relation to her mother in law’s interference.  In turn I shared my own experience with my sisters in law (of Vaddukoddai) and said ‘look at it this way. Had I not escalated the problem to court level – they would have been nobodies. Both sisters who usually took backseats in family – came to court in their own rights in relation to the Testamentary case. Their husbands took backseats. Northern Sri Lankan Tamils have two major factors through which discrimination happens. Gender and Caste. They both happened due to ‘using’ the common system of Thesawalamai at skin level - to derive immediate benefits. The suppressed group would have positive Energy to work the whole – only when it stays within that structure. When it takes revenge it rewards itself and thus misses the opportunity to consolidate with other victims in differently structured systems. When a problem is escalated – it facilitates such a merger.

Recently one of my fans said that her father had read my book ‘Jaffna is my Heritage ; not Dowry’ over two consecutive days. To me, that was due to this kind of merger. That is how true nationalism is developed. A good proportion of  Diaspora Tamils recognize Tamil Nationalism through the manifesto of LTTE which relied heavily on armed power. Armed power is Democratic only when it is limited to Defend one’s own Sovereign Territory. Anything in excess leads to autocracy and dictatorship. If Tamil Nationalism is to spread laterally – one needs to be Democratic.
The recent alleged inclusion of Tamil Nationalism in the UK Conservatives’ manifesto has been responded to as follows:

[Conservative party Deputy Chair Paul Scully has in his twitter message of 3 December 2019 once again reiterated the above position of the Conservative party, stating the following:

‘There is no Conservative manifesto commitment relating to the makeup of governance of Sri Lanka. … two state relate only to Middle East.’] The Island

The Sri Lankan Opposition’s stand has been published as follows:

[“Conservative party should understand that Sri Lanka was one of the few countries which backed the UK in its war against Argentina in the 1980s. Therefore we request the Conservative Party to remove the pledge to work on a two-state solution in Sri Lanka,” Mr. Dissanayake said.]

My article headed ‘The Global Tamil & Mr Boris Johnson’ was written on 15 July 2019 and it included special reference to Mr Navin Dissanayake. (Appendix).  I highlight the following parts that confirm my true contribution to common nationalism:

1.     [Let us take for example the following example of a Tamil leader Sir Ponnambalam Ramanathan  who is the closest Tamil parallel of Mr Johnson I can think of right now and who is reported to have been described by the first democratically elected Prime Minister of Ceylon / Sri Lanka  and the founder of Mr Navin Dissanayake’s political party  – the Hon D S Senanayake as "the greatest Ceylonese of all times". ]

2.     [If Mr Johnson does merge his ancestries – then he would contribute strongly to merger of Islamic and Christian cultures]

I expressed my truth through the form of Mr Johnson. Hence I identify with the two nation solution as a wakeup call to the respective Governments that are taking ‘senior’ role over a group with whom they do not have ‘Common Belief’. This was clearly expressed recently in relation to Muslims & Tamils – by the new President of Sri Lanka. The way of – the system of Truth – Dharma -  is to manifest the return as comfort to the person/group genuinely hurt by such expressions. Tamil and Islamic Nationalists would react in excitement. Common Sri Lankans would be hurt. As I keep stating to Australian Tamils and Jaffna Tamils – where there is truth / love – there is relativity on the way to two or more - becoming One. Without truth we are merely associates. Part of the reason for lack of relationship is reliance on ‘outcomes’ to ‘show’ victory without passing through common principles and structures.

To my mind, Mr Johnson as leader of Conservatives stands for Commonness. I identify with the following words of wisdom by  the Hon Quintin Hogg – British Barrister and Conservative Politician :
[ Conservatism is not so much a philosophy as an attitude, a constant force, performing a timeless function in the development of a free society, and corresponding to a deep and permanent requirement of human nature itself.]
I therefore interpret the Conservative Party’s manifesto in regards to Cyprus and Sri Lanka as well as the Middle East – as a commitment to development of Free society – as individuals and/or in groups of common belief. In fact that is the essence of the current Sri Lankan government’s unstated policy – requiring Tamils and Muslims to form their own natural governance.
The UNP which did not object to it but was busy with its own ‘internal’ squabbles and joined that bandwagon of Sinhala-Buddhism and hence protested. The way I escalated my family problem to Court level – Diaspora Tamils have escalated the Community’s problem successfully to global level. This naturally weakens the urge to use armed force at the primary level – the level understood by the current government and sadly by the younger UNP Opposition in Sri Lanka.

15 July  2019

The Global Tamil & Mr Boris Johnson
This morning I received an email headed ‘BORIS  JOHNSON .....and the revenge of the Turks!’. I included Mr Johnson in one of my email lists to share my feelings based thoughts on Tamils and Sinhalese of British origin who have made strong impact with the British. Truth being Universal – I feel that even if my emails are not read – the positions held by the recipients would be strengthened by the power of true sharing. I do receive acknowledgements without fail and that to me is confirmation of orderly administration at the primary level. At the other end – is belief based sharing without any form to confirm such sharing. To the extent I am genuine – I believe that the other side receives it. This may or may not be the individual named therein but the position or beyond that the issue of ethnic diversity. It could have been Mr Navin Dissanayake who is part of the Sri Lankan government  and who did respond in his own way.
I believe that every completed interaction empowers the relationship and that every completed relationship empowers common ownership. I completed mine with Mr Navin’s father the Hon Gamini Dissanayake who was our Law lecturer at the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Sri Lanka. I believe that all that also contributed to the Hon Gamini Dissanayake supporting  Tamil Politicians to take their due place in Sri Lankan politics, which is presented by Mr DBS Jeyaraj as follows in his recent article about Mr Amirthalingam:

[Former Mahaweli Development Minister Gamini Dissanayake was strongly supportive of the Indo-Lanka Accord and resultant peace efforts. He played a prominent role in encouraging self-exiled TULF leaders to return and be re-absorbed into the political mainstream during the latter stages of the J.R. Jayewardene Government. Gamini Dissanayake in 1988 took the initiative in ensuring the security of TULF leaders when he was a minister.]

With this sharing of commonness as my investment in Mr Borris Johnson my interests were drawn by the message ‘In a few days from now, Ali Kemal Bey’s great grandson, Boris Johnson, may become Prime Minister of the UK!’
The message was based on the write up by Dr Norman Finkelstein – an American of Jewish origin who is reported to have been banned in 2008 from entering Israel for 10 years for criticizing Israeli policies. The Facebook message in essence is as follows:

[At this time a century ago, the Interior Minister of Turkey was Ali Kemal Bey, who had established the Anglophile Society, advocating that Turkey become a British protectorate (like Kuwait, Qatar and Johor were at that time). He was hopelessly on the wrong side of history!
When Atatürk completed the reconquest of Turkey from British, French, Italian, Greek and Armenian control in November 1922, Atatürk’s colleague, General Nureddin, had Ali Kemal captured; he was then lynched and hanged from a tree.
In a few days from now, Ali Kemal Bey’s great grandson, Boris Johnson, will become Prime Minister of the UK! (Ali Kemal’s son, Osman Wilfred Kemal, changed his name to Wilfred Johnson, taking his maternal grandmother’s maiden name).
Ali Kemal was a journalist and politician, just as his grandson Stanley Johnson was. Stanley’s sons, Boris and Jo, are both former journalists and ministers, and their sister, Rachel Sabiha Johnson, carries Ali Kemal’s second wife’s name as her middle name!]

To my mind, the above is a clear confirmation of dual-policy mind that develops dual personalities – when duality is stronger than commonness. Truth makes us common. When we are dual – and we are taken as policy makers  or academic leaders – we develop our other side position – the same way I develop the common reader in my writing work. There are takers at various levels and at the point I read mine  Dr Finkelstein ‘s had 94 Comments and 273 Shares. The one who passed on to me was one of them and of Sri Lankan Tamil origin and this risk of duality  is of concern to me.

In that response to  Sri Lankan Minister Mr Navin Dissanayake, I included the following:
[As for the Kingdom of Kandy – A few years back I wrote referring to  the last king of Kandy ‘King Vickrama Rajasinha’ as per Wikipedia. Months later when I was looking for accommodation I came across Raja House about which experience I later wrote as follows last year:
‘I felt that I received the blessings of the above King when I was looking for accommodation in Colombo a couple of years back and my usual host was away in London. I found the place called ‘Raja House’ along Rajasinghe Road in Colombo 6 – commonly known as Tamil suburb. The morning after my arrival – I discovered the pictures of Sri Wickrama Rajasingha wearing the ‘Pottu’ – representing the third eye and usually worn by Hindus. As per my experience, Sinhalese do not wear the Pottu and hence the Pottu became a feature through which Tamil women were identified more easily by attackers in Colombo. I recall that in 1977 when I was pregnant with my daughter Gayathri – I consciously removed the Pottu when going to work – so there was less risk of me becoming the target of those attacking Tamils. Had King Rajasingha manifested in Colombo as he was when he passed away on 30 January 1832, it is likely that he would have been butchered on the roads of Colombo while commuting between work and home.’]
We do carry certain cultural marks reflecting our identities. But once we emigrate and become ‘common’ those marks are like the planetary positions in our horoscopes. If driven more by the horoscope than by the present – we go back living in the past. This is a block in realising the full value of our present.
Let us take for example the following example of a Tamil leader Sir Ponnambalam Ramanathan  who is the closest Tamil parallel of Mr Johnson I can think of right now and who is reported to have been described by the first democratically elected Prime Minister of Ceylon / Sri Lanka  and the founder of Mr Navin Dissanayake’s political party  – the Hon D S Senanayake as "the greatest Ceylonese of all times".
The following confirms that the commonness was through the merger of Western culture with Hindu spiritual life.
[Ramanathan was made a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George in the 1889 Birthday Honours. He was made a Knight Bachelor in 1921. Ramanathan founded two schools in northern Ceylon – Parameshwara College, Jaffna and Ramanathan College. In 1907 Ramanathan rebuilt the Sri Ponnambala Vaneswara Temple at Sea Street in Kochchikade, founded by his father. He helped establish the Hindu Education Board in 1923 and served as its president and manager of schools. He was also president of the Thiruvalluvar Maha Sabai in Madras.  Ramanathan and other leading figures founded The Ceylonese, an English-language newspaper, in 1913. He was president of the Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club from 1917 to 1930. Ramanathan opposed extending voting rights to the people and urged reservation of franchise only to men of the Vellalar caste.] Wikipedia
If we now criticize now – the caste based structure – we become time based dual citizens. One creates the other unless we merge through the truth from the past into our present. That truth is there as the invisible energy. If we show it in our current life – we lose the higher enjoyment through commonness.

The problem at the University of NSW got worse due to American trained academic / Vice Chancellor  of Australian origin - who knew very little about the then current needs of the University but used the language of democracy through his autocratic position. Even though of Sri Lankan origin I had become more Australian than the American of Australian origin. Hence I invoked Australian powers to which I also had contributed. This warned me against hasty actions in Northern Sri Lanka  where citizens are highly conscious of militant power. This includes University of Jaffna established by energy of  the greatest Ceylonese.

To be a uniting force – current custodians of power of the University need to feel connect to the founders. That is when militants earn the name ‘freedom fighters’ instead of terrorists.

If Mr Johnson does merge his ancestries – then he would contribute strongly to merger of Islamic and Christian cultures.

OXFORD COMMA OR VADDUKODDAI COLON
SRI LANKA IS ONE COUNTRY – TWO NATIONS

A cousin rang from Colombo to clarify how to present accounts to a member of the Diaspora. My cousin explained it in her own way. I used my way of showing the transactions individually – without netting one off against the other. That was my heritage from my Accountancy studies – in which arithmetical errors in accounts show up through Trail Balance  and we were required to correct them. I usually reversed the wrong first and then put through the correct entry. My cousin was happy to go along initially.  But in the end my cousin said that she preferred to show it her way. I was thinking of the other side – who was not present where the transactions were happening physically. Eventually I said to my cousin that she was like our Vaddukoddai staff who after some time - start telling me how they would act. This happens when they reach the maximum level of their own expectations which are largely in the form of outcomes order rather than common structural order. If I do not ‘oppose’ I am drawn down to their order of thought. This has little respect for seniors – especially those who are not currently living in their immediate vicinity.

To my mind, Sri Lanka’s ethnic problem is similar to the above problem. Are we to net off minority contribution against majority or show them as separate autonomous contributions? Where there are clearly diverse structures  through which our work passes – one cannot be netted off against the other – as in senior-junior relationships. It would be misleading and counterproductive to development.
In his Republic Next article ‘Tory tangle: Sri Lanka satisfied with Conservative clarification?’ – Himal Kotalawala states:

[A contentious reference to Sri Lanka in the election manifesto of the United Kingdom’s Conservative Party resulted in much confusion yesterday, with Government MP Udaya Gammanpila and others accusing the party of challenging Sri Lanka’s territorial integrity.
The reference is as follows:
“We will continue to support international initiatives to achieve reconciliation, stability and justice across the world, and in current or former conflict zones such as Cyprus, Sri Lanka and the Middle East, where we maintain our support for a two-state solution.”
The problematic wording of the line, particularly the absence of an Oxford comma, has led to the inference that Sri Lanka is included in former conflict zones for which the Tories support a two-state solution.

MP Gammanpila, writing to Foreign Relations Minister Dinesh Gunawardena yesterday, noted that the manifesto was published over a week ago and Sri Lanka’s High Commission to the UK has remained mum about what was a clear challenge to the country’s territorial integrity.]

Even though I share my work regularly with a few of UK’s political leaders - I do not know the thought structure of the UK Conservative Party’s leadership as well  as I know the current Sri Lankan Government’s . But as per the returns for my work, I do consider the UK system to be far more civilized than that of Sri Lanka’s where there is not even a basic ‘common’ acknowledgement to communications. Our experiences get completed at that level. I once received a direct response from Mr Blair when he was Prime Minister. I did get response from Mr Navin Dissanayake over the London Embassy issue but not in the case of others. The returns happen through  our true common investments. To my mind, to the extent Tamils of Sri Lankan origin who continue to carry forward our British heritage would be ‘heard’ by current British governors. The link is far weaker with those who have disconnected with that heritage.

As per the above report:

[Subsequent to the representations made, the Ministry said, Deputy Chair of the Conservative Party Paul Scully had issued the following clarification:
“The party’s position regarding Sri Lanka has not changed… To be absolutely clear, the two-state line in the section was intended to refer only to the Israel-Palestine situation in the Middle East (as is stated policy). The Commitments to Sri Lanka and Cyprus were simply about continuing existing efforts to support peace and reconciliation in divided societies.”]

Tamil National Alliance highlighted this structure in the UK on 24 November. I included it in my article dated 25 November under the heading ‘SINHALA NATION V SRI LANKAN NATION’
Hence, to my mind, the British Government policy is inclusive of the Sri Lankan truth – that majority race are not qualified to be seniors in government. It is noteworthy that these expressions are being published after Mr Ranil Wickremesinghe who is naturally carrying forward the British heritage also – stepped down from the position of Prime Minister. Not only the UK – but all foreign countries would need to restructure their own positions vis-à-vis the new Government structure of Sri Lanka.

Taken globally – is the UK Conservative Party not confirming the acceptance of the structure that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa outlined in his ‘Presidential Speech’ – that he was by belief -  the President of Sinhala-Buddhists?  Others outside that description could take it or leave it – i.e. Oppose it or ignore it – i.e. make ‘Fight or Flight’ decisions. Tamils who did take it – expressed their parallel – in 1976 through the Vaddukoddai Resolution 1976. That was the Will written by Tamil Political Leaders. Even now, those who draw on that heritage with respect would be supported by that Energy which from time to time comes in the form of Leaders outside Sri Lanka. Once our work is Energy – it is Universal – beyond time and space borders.

With or without the Oxford comma, as per my observation, the Common British does consider Sri Lanka to be a divided nation. Recognizing the truth is important in dealing with the issues that are challenging our own capabilities in relation to distant investments. The full message published was as follows:

Nationalism is strongly linked to illegal immigration which affects most host nations. Beyond common laws, Truth alone can regulate and guide host nations to find the valuable migrant who deserves orderly life. Showing respect for Tamil Nationalists in the UK  is therefore valuable to the UK government and so long as this is done – the ‘Terrorism aspect’ would become dormant.
Be they Sinhalese or Tamils – members of the Sri Lankan Diaspora who are true to their respective communities and who do not hold official portfolios – work the system of truth  - and are of most reliable order. They are entitled to the same level of immunity as the head of State – including in another nation.

Political statements and promises made during election time – are outlines of  facilities through which the People express their views. To the extent they are based on true experience of the leader – they become sustainable. To the extent they facilitate the voter to express her/his truth – it would be a divine power that guides the natural environment of the voter. Otherwise we do not need laws that outline our right to free speech/expression, including through our votes.

Wherever Autocracy has failed and Democracy has been adopted – diversity is essential. Hence Equal Opportunity laws that facilitate physical separation. To my mind that is how the UK politicians  view diverse races in Sri Lanka. In terms of the above mentioned response ‘The Commitments to Sri Lanka and Cyprus were simply about continuing existing efforts to support peace and reconciliation in divided societies.’ it is one of hope that the immediate past Sri Lankan government’s values would be carried forward. Every true interpretation is valid in a public forum.

Within host nations including Australia – there are many nations. But only a few express them and to the extent they are true to themselves – they are taken as accepted by the system of Truth – known as Dharma in my world. Acceptance by government and other senior groups helps comfort the victims – that they are not alone. Caste based isolation, to my mind was a reason for JVP as well as LTTE militancy in Sri Lanka. If separated on the basis of race, Reverse Discrimination within each race, is a real and present risk.

19th AMENDMENT IS THE WILL OF THE UNP GOVERNMENT

Dual citizens by law (Article 91 (1)(d) (xiii))  included through  the 19th Amendment to the Sri Lankan Constitution are barred from being elected to Sri Lankan Parliament. Mr Victor Rajalingam – a Tamil Diaspora leader, includes in his  presentation of his book ‘History of the Dispossessed Sri Lankan Tamils’ the following:
[Contents of this book targets the second and later generations of Sri Lankan Tamils in the Diaspora worldwide.]
I believe that my articles include this group and beyond. The natural spread depends on the truth in the content of the writings. Most Dispossessed Sri Lankans are Dual Citizens during the early stages of their/our new life. If we interpret the happenings in one country, through the mind of a citizen in another- we would mislead ourselves and those who need our services. Take for example members of the Diaspora who draw pensions from Sri Lanka as well as from Australia. Are they not Dual Citizens? Even if the laws do not ban it – we need to refrain from participating actively in ‘judging’ as if we were Sri Lankans but in favour of Australians – our new partners. If we use global structures of thought – then they would be of value to both. Global citizens, like the UN are common citizens.
To my mind, the above book written by Victor is his Will in relation to his investment in Public Life.  The last UNP government’s will is the 19th Amendment to the Sri Lankan Constitution. It confirms completion of transitional life as Sri Lankan towards Global citizenship.

In Thesawalamai Law – particular to Northern Sri Lankan Tamils – Dowry is allocated to daughters who marry early and leave the family home of parents to live with the husband’s family and/or his cultural systems. Immigration like marriage becomes the life of a daughter when the migrant takes wealth from the 1st nation to the 2nd one. It was for this reason that I named my book – ‘Jaffna is my heritage; not dowry’. I have thus far not brought from Sri Lanka, any money or status wealth to be applied  as is in Australia. I have brought pure intelligence.  These days when I invest in Sri Lanka, it is of global standards – to be free of the pitfalls of dual citizenship – the worst of it being bipolar disorder. This was highlighted by ‘Homeland’  - American TV series in which CIA’s Carrie Mathison is portrayed as being bipolar. While many reviews have valued this through the individual with bipolar disorder,  no one seems to have identified with dual cultures that this character - Carrie Mathison assumes in the course of her work in foreign/Middle Eastern/Islamic  war zones.

Recently, an American journalist displayed high risk of bipolar disorder when he effectively ‘ordered’  me to remove him from my email list. He came into that particular list due to his writings about Sri Lanka’s internal war. By ‘disciplining’ him to do it himself –I reduced such a risk. This kind of ‘excitement’ happens in areas affected by war – into which money is pumped to ‘show’ progress rather than recovery. The new Sri Lankan President’s emphasis on Development instead of Devolution in Northern  and Eastern Sri Lanka strongly indicates this kind of risk.

I am often ‘mistaken’ by Northern Sri Lankans looking for handouts in the mistaken thinking that they would get over their pain through new money. I insist that they earn what they get including through paying respects to donor systems. From time to time, I have to ‘pause’ and help the folks in need ‘come out of their desires for quick answers’ and feel the need as if I was not there. I am able to do so because I do not desire to ‘show’ anyone any progress. If I did have that desire – I would be a dual citizen and not common global citizen.

A highly respected  journalist who as per my assessment is global minded wrote in response to my yesterday’s article ‘SRI LANKA’S NATURAL POWERS:

[You have said that LTTE was influenced by minds outside Sri Lanka including Indian minds. I think it is not fully correct. Prabakaran was influenced more by his close aides in his hideout and perhaps some of his people settled outside in London like Balasingham.  But even Balasingham had his limits.]

I do identify with the above in the Diaspora which is a mix of two or more ‘commodities’. As I say to my juniors – when they package their work as per their methodology I have the right to take it or leave it – as in trading / business. But to the extent they use my methodology – we become shareholders in common. My methodology is the pathway through which I became a senior. Included are my sacrifices to attribute to my seniors for the credits I held. Prabakaran produced his own outputs and to the extent he failed to attribute credit to those who resourced him – he had the duty to demonstrate respect for them. This did not include New Delhi – any more than the new Lankan  President not attributing credit to  the UNP for the 19th Amendment, which naturally opened the connection to the Democratic nations in the West.

If minds do not merge – laterally as Equals or vertically as seniors-juniors, apparent economic progress would not be sustained. In fact it is likely to lead to radicalization and/or strengthen radicalization that already exists. When minds merge – whatever we do in one part of the world would be returned naturally through any part of the merged world.

To my mind,  the provisions of the 19th Amendment to the Sri Lankan Constitution, when actively practiced, would facilitate travel through the  pathway. Making commodities of resources blocks such pathways and isolates us.

The new President needs to develop higher pathways than existing ones, if global investment in Sri Lanka is to make Sri Lankans feel they are Equals to any other nation and not juniors. Truth is the basis of any relationship – including in journalism driven by Sri Lankan wars.
In terms of diverse culture of Jaffna - FACTSHEET – UPR 2017 – SRI LANKA 3rd CYCLE UNIVERSAL PERIODIC REVIEW, states the following:

[Jaffna Matrimonial Rights and Inheritance Orinance of 1947 disables women subject to Thesawalamai law from entering into contracts without the express approval of their husband.]
Section 6 of the above Ordinance states:

All movable or immovable property to which any woman married after the commencement of this Ordinance may be entitled at the time of her marriage, or which she may during the subsistence of the marriage acquire or become entitled to by way of gift or inheritance or by conversion of any property to which she may have been so entitled or which she may so acquire or become entitled to, shall, subject and without prejudice to the trusts of any will or settlement affecting the same, belong to the woman for her separate estate, and shall not be liable for the debts or engagements of her husband, unless incurred for or in respect of the cultivation, upkeep, repairs, management, or improvement of such property, or for or in regard to any charges, rates, or taxes imposed by law in respect thereof, and her receipts alone or the receipts of her duly authorized agent shall be a good discharge for the rents, issues, and profits arising from or in respect of such property. Such woman shall, subject and without prejudice to any such trusts as aforesaid, have as full power of disposing of and dealing with such property by any lawful act inter vivos without the consent of the husband in case of movables, or with his written consent in the case of immovables, but not otherwise, or by last will without consent, as if she were unmarried.
The recommendation by the UPR included the following:

[6. Amend all Personal Laws, including the Muslim, Kandyan and Tesawalamai Personal Laws, to remove discriminatory provisions regulating ownership, inheritance, transfer and disposal of land and property, as well as provisions regulating legal capacity, marriage, divorce, and child custody.]

As most members of the Jaffna Tamil Community are aware – dowry continues to be very much a part of the marriage system of Jaffna Tamils. My own sisters in law sought to claim that they were paid ‘donation’ and not ‘dowry’ by their father. My husband and I argued in Court that as per Thesawalamai law they were paid ‘dowry’ and hence were not entitled to any share in the residual wealth of the parents and those who were not married. The Jaffna Courts upheld their claim and dismissed ours. They thus earned Common Law application and not lost their heritage of  Thesawalamai mind itself.  In the system of Natural Justice – they Oppose Devolution of power to Tamils. Ultimately we are ‘given’ as we ask – often without knowing what we are losing through the system of Truth. Thesawalamai fundamentals confirm diversity of Gender and Equal Rights of women who are required by law to access the knowledge of men who specialise in ‘external relationships’ – such as in ‘foreign ministries’. They do not need handouts from promoter of general law.

SRI LANKA’S NATURAL POWERS

The Indo-China issue has, to my mind highlighted the natural endowments of Sri Lanka that confirm Divine Sovereignty by structure. As in Australia, the Island formation confirms natural completeness and independence. Every ‘outsider’ who comes in needs to pay her/his/its respects to this natural sovereignty as a whole. It is generally accepted that we as individuals, come into this world as Sovereign entities. Even if we have sinned in the past, if we are active in the current – to be debt-free those sins would naturally be dormant. Being debt free requires us to be self-sufficient in terms of money, human resources and policies/law  in practice.
The first President from the Rajapaksa family – Mr Mahinda – has been open about his belief in the system of karma. Otherwise he would not have resorted to horoscope guidance. Our karma precedes us when we are not active as per our current systems. A new government starts with majority vote in politics and if it acted without breaching the laws, it would complete its governance by identifying and highlighting including through laws – the Truth that maintains the sovereignty of government.
In his interview with Hindustan Times’National Editor, Ms Padma Rao Sundarji, the new President of Sri Lanka stated words to the effect ‘Islamist Terrorism is not restricted to Sri Lanka. It is a global threat.’
As per known facts, the LTTE were NOT considered a global threat. Yet global resources – including Chinese funds  were accessed to defeat the LTTE. Thereafter, the Rajapaksa government refused to Account as per global policies, despite the fact that there was serious damage to thousands of civilians. The question is whether the Rajapaksa government became indebted to the global community and by failing to be Accountable – did it allow the debt to become a sin? Sins control us. Is this why we had the Easter Attacks ? Is Mr Rajapaksa confessing to the Easter attacks being influenced by global forces? The group may not be from outside Sri Lanka. But the mind worked through the Sri Lankan Muslim parallel of the LTTE which also was influenced by minds outside Sri Lanka – including Indian minds. It happened during  the Presidency of Mr Sirisena who shared in the Rajapaksa karma for better or for worse and he was also dormant in the new Democratic structure of the UNP.
As highlighted in my yesterday’s article - the President is reported to have stated ‘The 19th amendment (passed in 2015) is a failure and if we get 2/3rds majority in parliament we will drop it from the constitution.

In his article ‘Gotabhaya presidency, democracy and minorities’ – Dr Amir Ali of Murdoch University, highlights as follows:

‘ The 48% that did not vote for the President exercised their legitimate democratic right, and bulk of that 48% happened to be the two minorities, Tamils and Muslims.’
As per my knowledge only 84% voted. As a percentage of the total votes available – Mr Rajapaksa received the approval of only 46%. This is 21 percentage points short of the 67% approval needed. The 19th Amendment was passed by 95% of members which includes members of the new government. If those members would vote against it now – they are confirming that their vote in 2015 was not based on belief or that the President is thinking of sacking this government and forming a government with entirely new persons! New Administrators often fool themselves through such thoughts. UNP’s  senior MP Mr Lakshman Kiriella has already expressed against such a move. If it were put to parliament now – the Opposition has more numbers to defeat the new Government. It is therefore inappropriate to project such speculations.
The 19th Amendment has paved the way for minorities to be more democratic instead of choosing an Equal and Opposite autocracy to that of majority race. This is essential if we are to function as a Unitary State. It is the parallel of articles 10 and 14(i) (e ) which are about Equal rights without which the Constitution would be devoid of the spirit of Sovereignty. If 19th Amendment is repealed – the contributions all of us made – especially spiritually – mind to mind would remain in Parliament and haunt those who disrespected genuine work – so we do not have a repeat of the ethnic war and all its consequences.

The 13th Amendment, like ‘Buddhism foremost’ article -  has not worked because it is politically disastrous to majority who fear India’s power. This was to offset the Executive President’s Executive power which effectively had no opposition after election. The 19th Amendment is a way out – by curtailing the Executive supremacy of the President.

Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa had knowledge of this and if he sought to repeal it – he should have made that a priority in his election mandate. May be he learnt from Mr Sirisena as to not say it as a promise. But even having it in the mind carries the risk of bipolar disorder. Desire and Fear when they are separated by long strength of time – carry the risk of bipolar disorder. Belief is based on consolidated value. The next best is intellectual balance – which is strongly promoted by laws.

Minorities who are more law abiding than majority would continue to hold the balance of power in Sri Lanka. Many members of minority communities contributed to the structure of higher order in Common Sri Lanka. They would awaken themselves to support all current investors in democratic Sri Lanka. Divine forces would naturally support such minorities to be self-sufficient within their areas. Small groups often promote realization of higher skills – as LTTE demonstrated for a long time. It would be wise to respect and let them sleep in Peace.

KARMA OF ETHNIC ISSUE

Professor Ramu Manivannan emphasized the need for Sri Lankan Tamils to challenge and remove politically, blocks to our path to self-governance as a Tamil Nation. I identify with the value in this. Towards this we need to – as a community – ensure that that pathway is not polluted. Many leaders were last month questioned about memorial services in honour War Heroes.
To me it is no coincidence that the memorial is in November – the month dedicated to souls as well as Lord Murugan by Hindus.  Kathirgamam in Southern Sri Lanka, near  Hambantota  is considered sacred due to Lord Murugan. Tamil militant community as dedicated  27 November to honour its heroes.
Like the Gay community, militant communities have become a special group with their own positives and negatives. Where they are able to function on their own, without being unlawful – it is beneficial to the Government to facilitate their diversity – the way gay communities are protected by law in many developed nations. To my mind the positive reason is victims of injustice accumulating positive karma by living within their own little space. When alienated their power is lost to the whole.
The current President of Sri Lanka was elected to share his governance power with the whole of Sri Lanka and not just the Sinhala-Buddhist community. His expressions have confirmed that in his natural mode – he would act to fulfil the wishes of the Sinhala-Buddhist community. But by stating that the 19th Amendment to the Constitution which curtailed the Executive powers of the President was a failure (Colombo Page report – Sri Lanka President ready to abolish 19th Amendment if given two thirds majority in Parliament) the President further subdivides and limits himself to only a section of that Sinhala Buddhist community. Majority in that group led by Mr Wickremesinghe,  which  improved the democratic value of Sri Lanka through the 19th Amendment are also Sinhala Buddhists. Their contributions are being brought to the gallows. But their spirit will continue as sacred or ghost.
The President is reported to have stated ‘The 19th amendment (passed in 2015) is a failure and if we get 2/3rds majority in parliament we will drop it from the constitution. The only way you can even make the 19th amendment work is with two brothers’
As per my interpretation, the 19th Amendment, prevented the Rajapaksa regime coming to power through the backdoor. It upheld Democracy. It prevented also the current President from taking on the position of Defence Minister – which would be a promotion from his war-time position. To my mind, UNP invoked the power of Sri Lankan politicians who were committed to the law  and whose contributions to Sri Lanka have become absolute powers. Belief is absolute power. Every true Sri Lankan would invoke this power naturally when s/he/Sri Lanka  is in need. The 19th Amendment became a reality due to such power.
Recently when discussing our own family issue in relation to a testamentary matter – I said to my husband, that even though we have spent and not received money – we have clearly established that the ‘system’ must declare our share and not our ‘juniors’ who are indebted to us. This applies not only to politicians who ‘tell’ law-abiding citizens but also to a leader elected by majority in relation  to an unelected governor who governs her-himself. The 19th Amendment confirmed our democratic space – however small it may seem, relative to majority opinion.

As for the 13th Amendment, the new President is reported to have stated as follows:
[He said full devolution of powers as promised by the 13th Amendment to the Constitution in 1987 could not be implemented "against the wishes and feeling of the majority [Sinhala] community."
"Anyone who is promising something against the majority's will is untrue. No Sinhala will say, don't develop the area, or don't give jobs, but political issues are different."]
The 13th Amendment, so long as it remains in force – confirms the ‘Sovereignty of the People’ as stipulated by Article 3 of the Constitution.  It considers  the whole of Sri Lanka taken as One.  If someone does not Feel that  Tamils and Muslims are a part of her/himself – s/he is NOT Sri Lankan by belief.  To fill that ‘gap’ law requires conscious inclusion – like in any commercial agreement with China.

Article 3 :
[In the Republic of Sri Lanka sovereignty is in the People and is inalienable. Sovereignty includes the powers of government, fundamental rights and the franchise.]

To my mind, neither Sinhala Nationalists nor Tamil Nationalists are Sri Lankan Nationals confirming Sovereignty referred to in Article 3. Radicalization happens when one gives up travel along the common pathway living in small space for example an independent gay person living exclusively within the gay community – but exerting power outside that local area. The bigger group is poorer by excluding such community – especially where as small community group – they are honest with each other – confirming  sovereignty of relationships.

If the Tamil community is such a community,  Sinhalese who alienate them are losers. The voting pattern in the recent Presidential elections have clearly confirmed that Tamils & Muslims believe that they are such a group.

This need not be proven to anyone. To the extent they  use common Sri Lankan resources – they have the duty  to contribute consciously to common life through stated laws. But there is no compulsion for us to live as Sri Lankans or to obey Sinhala nationalists. The same law would therefore be interpreted by the diverse groups as per their own karma.

Karma is the truth of our past. Karma leads us when our current efforts are weak. To the extent Mr Gotabhaya Rajapaksa by belief did not consider LTTE and its community to be Sri Lankans – he needed to ensure that the law was strictly applied during the war. If jungle rules were followed – civilians ought to have been first vacated from the war-zone. To the extent this did not happen – every civilian who died added her/his value raised to the power of Sovereign Sri Lankan. Not so the government soldier who used power that s/he had not earned by belief and / or commitment to the Sri Lankan law – including the 13th Amendment which was already in force during the 2009 war. Accordingly as per article 22 of the Constitution – the war Administration ought to have been in Tamil:

[22. (1) Sinhala and Tamil shall be the languages of administration throughout Sri Lanka and Sinhala shall be the language of administration and be used for the maintenance of public records and the transaction of all business by public institutions of all the Provinces of Sri Lanka other than the Northern and Eastern Provinces where Tamil shall be so used ]

Did the soldiers use Tamil during the war? Every breach demotes the person who took oath. That karma precedes one who lacks wisdom in the current structure.

Like English being the link language – Sri Lankans are the bridges between genuine Tamil and Sinhala nationalists. Like community laws that ‘include’ gays and protect the mainstream from their curse – militants also need laws to protect their special achievements.

Like the person and place – every issue also has its karma. The ethnic issue carries its karma independent of the leader.  One who respects the truth of the past would be supported by positive karma. One driven by benefits and losses of the past – would be punished by the Karmic system

CAUGHT BETWEEN INDIA AND CHINA
Through Magampura Mahinda Rajapaksa Port

A relative close to the Common Structure wanted to know about ‘reconciling’ between us and another section of our family. I said words to the effect:

‘Look at it this way. We have diverse structures at family level. Each family would interpret the religious and other cultural laws common to all  - in its own way and weave its own structures. To the extent the nucleus of that group is the truth – that local structure would keep going until it merges with the essence of the religious and cultural laws – as rivers flow towards and merge with the ocean. Those whose structure is close to that big structure – which often is without visible borders – would not have far to travel. We raised the family issue to Thesawalamai level and even though from time to time our pathway was ‘blocked’ we kept going as far as we could.  Now the other branch can either flow through us or go direct to the ocean of Thesawalamai whose horizons we cannot see’.

The Global  parallel of Thesawalamai is the UN which has no visible borders. Those who use the UN as a pool would not recognize it as the Ocean and v.v.. In his Sunday Observer article headed ‘A complete reset, and a belief that nothing is impossible’, Rajpal Abeynayake states as follows:

[not much cash was forthcoming from Western governments during the tenure of the Wickremesinghe administration, and Palitha Kohona, the former UN diplomat said pithily, ‘they expected these countries to come with bags of gold but no bags of gold materialised.’]

The Rajapaksa Government to which Dr Kohona was close, which did receive bags of gold, ended up dividing itself. Money without Common purpose, divides.  We raised the family issue to the level of Thesawalamai to confirm the community values that supported us to function as a family with the common purpose of merging with the Community. That way we became Community Relations. In the process  there were opportunities for others to learn from our own experiences and remove their own blocks – so they would reach the final destination of Community and then take that common value to become global.

The LTTE  also received money from Indian leader MG Ramachandran. Eventually, when Mr Rajiv Gandhi was killed in Tamil Nadu one needs to ask whether that money divided Indian Governance?

To the extent the Chinese money blinded the then Sri Lankan Government to its responsibility to its Sri Lankan relatives – i.e. – Tamils – that money was a dividing factor. To the extent Tamil insurgency was used towards getting money from others – all of the others – including China caused the disorderliness in the Government forces which resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths of civilians.

This was a severe blow to the Tamil psyche that took pride in self governance. But the moment we accepted money from Indians we had the responsibility to act as a regional group and not as a smaller separatist group. The LTTE felt that it was being used by Indians for their own purposes. Those who give handouts usually have this tendency. This led to the killing of former Inidan Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. That was how Buddhist clergy killed the then Prime Minister who gave them money.

As per News 1st report dated 25 November 2019, headed ‘Hambantota port deal will be renegotiated – President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’ :

[Addressing the issue of China’s involvement in Sri Lanka, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa stated that the involvement which took place under the tenure of his brother, President Mahinda Rajapaksa, was purely “commercial.” He went onto state that even though China saw the Hambantota port as part of its “String of Pearls,” the then Government looked at it as a requirement. He also stated that Sri Lanka should have never given “control of the Port to China,” adding that it was a mistake.]

The New York Times reported on 25 June 2018 - about how Sri Lankans were fooled in this regard:

How China Got Sri Lanka to Cough Up a Port

[During the 2015 Sri Lankan elections, large payments from the Chinese port construction fund flowed directly to campaign aides and activities for Mr. Rajapaksa, who had agreed to Chinese terms at every turn and was seen as an important ally in China’s efforts to tilt influence away from India in South Asia. The payments were confirmed by documents and cash checks detailed in a government investigation seen by The New York Times.

• Though Chinese officials and analysts have insisted that China’s interest in the Hambantota port is purely commercial, Sri Lankan officials said that from the start, the intelligence and strategic possibilities of the port’s location were part of the negotiations.
• Initially moderate terms for lending on the port project became more onerous as Sri Lankan officials asked to renegotiate the timeline and add more financing. And as Sri Lankan officials became desperate to get the debt off their books in recent years, the Chinese demands centered on handing over equity in the port rather than allowing any easing of terms.]

On 01 July 2018, the Island reported about the above,  that Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake that the reporter  had obtained information for her story from a B report given by the FCID. But there is no evidence that Mr Ramanayake Opposed the substance in that report.

If the deal was  purely ‘Commercial’ the Government of the day had the democratic responsibility to be Transparent about the terms of the ‘Commercial Agreement’.

But the land knew. The truth manifested as ‘Fire’ during the opening of Shangri-La Hambantota. The fire was traced to the ‘fire-crackers’ that the Chinese are well known for. The Colombo Gazette report on this included the following:

[There had been several breaches of security at functions attended by President Sirisena who came to power in January last year. He has dispensed with much of the tight security accorded to his predecessors.]

If the then President had listened to the ‘local warning’ he would have prevented the 2019 Easter Bombing which included in its victim list -  Shangrila Colombo. One needs to have contributed to the Sovereignty of Sri Lanka to be able to ‘hear’ the voice of the Land.

A year ago – the Thirdpole reported under the heading ‘Local fears grow over Chinese projects in Sri Lanka’ :

[For a decade Vimalabudhi had few problems with the Chinese funded projects that were coming up in Hambantota at break-neck speed. Then President Mahinda Rajapaksa launched a series of projects in his home constituency. The most visible Chinese backed projects were the new highways, cutting south through the western slopes of the island, two port projects and a new airport, among others.
It was in 2015, when Rajapaksa was defeated, that the monk from Beragama became really concerned. Burdened by heavy debt, the Sri Lankan government was looking for a release valve. The country owes at least one fifth of its over US$50 billion foreign debt to China. The situation was worsened by a stagnant economy and non-preforming projects like the Mattala International Airport, known as the world’s emptiest airport. The port has recorded negative growth…….
…The stretch of the highway linking the empty airport to the port cuts through key elephant corridors. It’s being built by China Communication Construction Company. Three quarters of the 489-hectare project runs through shrub jungle, according to an environmental assessment report obtained by the local rights body Center for Environmental Justice…….
“According to the records of the Department of Wildlife Conservation there are more than 400 elephants roaming in the Managed Elephant Range and those moving between the parks also use this area on a regular basis,” the report states adding that animals roam as much as 25 kilometres a day. Between 15-20% of the island’s elephant population could live in the project area, the department estimates.
The airport was also built on elephant habitat, and wildlife officials in Hambantota are frequently called up to chase the pachyderms off the runway.]

If the Government had listened to Hindu Sri Lankan – to whom the elephant is sacred – it would have prevented the Hambantota Port project.  But by separating Hindus – they lost that connection. Those who believe in Lord Kathirgama Murugan would be protected by the Elephant. But all these projects were to artificially boost the name of the Rajapaksas. One does not need any other proof than the above name boards to know the selfishness of the rulers was the root cause.  Magampura Mahinda Rajapaksa Port is the proof that the loans were taken due to desire to promote the dynasty that came to power through the democratic vote.
If it is true that it was ‘Purely Commercial’ then the first step ought to be to give it a Common Sri Lankan name – or the name of the Lord of that area – Kathirgamam. Even Lord Muruga had to resort to the blessings of His elder brother Ganesh who came in the form of elephant to push Valli into the arms of Murugan.  Name of Common Belief   would protect Sri Lanka from all war Lords – including Indians.
