USE AIRSPACE – DON’T SELL THE NATIONAL CARRIER

When I first read that the Economy Next article of 01 May 2022, under the title ‘Sri Lanka ex-PM who failed to privatize SriLankan Airlines brings up sale idea in opposition’ - at https://economynext.com/sri-lanka-ex-pm-who-failed-to-privatize-srilankan-airlines-brings-up-sale-idea-in-opposition-93735/  - I got upset due to my own investment at ownership level through Air Lanka. I commented as follows:

[Sri Lankan Airlines has the capability of operating successfully on commercial basis. It should not be sold but ought to be supported]

Since Mr Ranil Wickremesinghe became Prime Minister, this issue kept nagging me. It got worse after I discovered through my independent intellectual research and concluded through ownership indicators – that the Galle Face protests were through American and would-be American minds. The more Western education we have, the greater the influence of the West in our minds.  So long as we maintain our independence – it remains a balanced intellectual influence. But after the ‘appointment’ of Mr Ranil Wickremesinghe as PM by the President who was American until the last elections, I was not sure that Mr Ranil Wickremesinghe’s proposal was ‘independent’.

When I reread Mr M K Bhadrakumar ‘s article – ‘India’s Quad Dilemma in Sri Lanka’  at - https://www.indianpunchline.com/indias-quad-dilemma-in-sri-lanka/  - in the consciousness of my current discoveries – the pennies kept dropping!  This article’s punchline ‘Between the cow and the Quad, their preference is a foregone conclusion. It is like boon after boon from Kamadhenu – mother of all cows.

The Indian-American mind in this issue surfaced from within when I read the Morning article headed ‘Salvaging the debt-ridden National Carrier’.  The introduction included the following:

[Founded as Air Lanka in 1979, the airline was described by Singapore’s Lee Kuan Yew as “a glamour project, not of great value for developing Sri Lanka”. ]

To my mind, if the above was stated -  by Mr Lee Kuan Yew,  he was cursing not only Air Lanka but also his own National carrier – Singapore International Airlines who were responsible for management training during my time. If indeed it was said between 1977 and 1979 – then it is quite possible that it was a business ‘trick’ to get in cheaply  - as Indian-American coalition seems to have done to take control of this Indian Ocean island – whose value has escalated due to China’s investment followed by Quad awakening under the leadership of Capt. Trump. Our new PM is due to attend tomorrow’s Quad meeting in Tokyo.

In light of this, Sri Lanka’s current value has increased to global levels. The emphasis is on ports and terminals. Most importantly, the national carrier  which has strong links to the Civil Aviation Authority could share in the revenue earned by fees charged to those who would use our Airspace.

The solution is indicated in the following paragraph of the above mentioned article:

[According to SriLankan Airlines Annual Reports from 2008, the final year in which Emirates operated the airline, it made a profit of Rs. 4.4 billion. It was mentioned in some reports that this profit included insurance claims after the terrorist attacks on the Bandaranaike International Airport. ]

The National parallel for Sri Lanka is to collect high level fee for all its airports and seaports due to the ongoing Terrorism threat combined with ongoing Political  instability. Quad members need to be charged a very high fee – especially due to the risk to Sri Lankan waters and airspace if there is confrontation between China and Quad member countries. The Malabar exercises by Quad is a strong indicator of the contingent loss in this regard.

Under Mr Wickremesinghe’s leadership a team of paid professionals investigated the National carrier. On 16 July 2016, I published my analysis on this under the title ‘Pilots & Lawyers Damaging Sri Lankan Airlines’  -

http://austms.blogspot.com/2016/07/gajalakshmiparamasivam-16-july-2016.html

The leader of that team was later sent to Australia, as High Commissioner. Has Mr Wickremesinghe found out the benefit derived from that exercise during his leadership? If the outcome was negative in money terms – then any business move in relation to the National Carrier – by Mr Wickremesinghe will carry that loss also.

As per the above mentioned  article :

[ The problem is both clear and dire. We maintain a national airline at a substantial loss and ask the common people, many of whom don’t even possess a passport or haven’t even stepped on an aeroplane, to foot the bill. In other words, we are maintaining a failing  airline at the expense of the education and healthcare of our people. ]

Once a mechanic in Vaddukoddai (Northern Sri Lanka) said to me that when the LTTE soldiers marched along the streets in their uniforms – he felt brave and courageous. That is the value of  deep ‘ownership’. Likewise, as a Sri Lankan I experienced elevation of my status in my circles due to working as senior manager of Air Lanka. No – Sri Lankans at grassroots level are not likely to experience step foot into the National carrier. But when they ‘see’ the ‘flying peacock’ they would enjoy the experience as if they were piloting the planes or that they were the crew elegantly serving the international passengers. That is ownership. Recently when our granddaughter adjourned her holiday plans to Sri Lanka, she apologized to us for any disappointment we would experience. She had booked to fly Sri Lankan Airlines. That is the heritage value I have developed at family level.

I pray that the Prime Minister does not make the mistake again with the National carrier due to his own lack of business sense. Mr Lee Kuan Yew lacked intuition into Sri Lankans’ resilience. If we stayed alive for 43 years – we would find a way to stay Sri Lankan – at least to reach SIA’s current age of 56.

HORSE TRADING IN VISAS

Recently, I stated about birthday present to our eldest granddaughter,  that we needed to make sure that we would be able to do likewise to all our grandchildren. That apparent Equality is important in a Democratic structure. This begins with seniors ‘showing’ equality at the primary level of distribution. One who is committed to Equal Opportunity at tertiary (policy) level will naturally demonstrate this at primary distribution level.

The root of this is in Truth as per our conscience. When this happens at the primary voter-level it would naturally travel to the policy level through the person we vote for and v.v.  Democracy is based on this pathway that Truth takes from citizen to governor. Autocracy is based on this passage from senior /governor to junior /citizen.

In democracy – governance by majority needs to maintain this Equality at primary level, at all times. Hence Equal status to Opposition in Parliament. But for this to be true, -  the Opposition side needs to be more intellectually driven than the common member of the government  or in her/his mind take ‘junior’ position to the Common member of the government. When one takes junior position, one connects to the mind of senior and hence is able to access the ‘intelligence’. The example that comes to mind is that of Ekalavyan who learnt from a guru to whom he was invisible. Wikipedia presents the legend as follows:

[One day when Drona and his students were going out into the forest, Arjuna saw a dog that was unable to bark due to an amazing construction of arrows in and all around his mouth. This construction was harmless to the dog but prevented the dog from barking. Drona was amazed but also distressed: as he had promised Arjuna that he would make him the greatest archer in the world. Wondering who such a fine archer could be, Drona and his students investigated and came upon Ekalavya. Upon seeing Drona, Ekalavya came and bowed to him.

Drona asked Ekalavya where he had learned archery. Ekalavya replied "under you, Guruji", and showed Drona his statue while explaining what he had done. Drona then reminded Ekalavya that to truly be Drona's pupil, Ekalavya would have to pay guru dakshina. Readily, Ekalavya offers to do anything for Drona.Thereby, Drona asks Ekalavya to cut off his right thumb as Guru Dakshina. Happy and smiling, Ekalavya cuts off the thumb and presents it as Gurudakshina to Dronacharya]

In Democratic Politics, the junior who has to ‘show’ equality – is facilitated  to produce her/his law / theory at her/his level. Hence freedom of speech including to the ‘citizen’.  This would work only if that junior expresses her/his truth. The truth spreads itself exponentially and hence gets more followers than an apparent senior.

Our Australian elections 2022 – confirmed how this worked to defeat Labor Senator Kristina Kenneally who demonstrated special treatment for a Sri Lankan Tamil family .

[About 11pm on election night in the central Queensland town of Biloela, Angela Fredericks phoned her absent friend.

“Priya, you are coming home,” she said.

Few people had more at stake in the federal election than Tamil asylum seekers Nades and Priya Murugappan, and their daughters Kopika and Tharnicaa.]  - The Guardian article ‘Labor victory means Murugappan family set to return home to Biloela’

But that came as loss of seat in an election defeat of Labor’s immigration spokesperson, Ms Kristina Kenneally .

As per my intuitive intelligence of Sri Lankan refugees, I did not identify with the any special need for the above family – relative to their parallels in Sri Lanka. When I observed Ms Keneally  identifying herself with the above family, I declared it to be ‘false’ through my regular communications. There were responses from within the Australian Tamil community – to strengthen the value of this Opposition. But the ‘package’ by Ms Angela Fredericks  seems to have been more attractive to Ms Keneally  - as confirmed by the photos published in local news.

That elevation lacked the belief in the need of the Common Current Refugee – seeking asylum in Australia.

If indeed Ms  Keneally  got the votes of Sri Lankan Tamil community in NSW who liked the projected outcome, the self balancing system of Dharma, would automatically bring on the curse of other more deserving refugee applicants who were waiting in the queue. At the deeper level, if there are prisoners of war still suffering in Sri Lankan prisons and the government of Australia or its Opposition, has not Opposed it – then such special treatment, effectively becomes a political quid pro quo with the Tamil community here in Australia. If the strength of genuine Belief-based Opposition to this stronger than the Political power of the ‘special-treatment’ – then the leader gets demoted by the belief of such citizens. That is how true and direct democracy works.

Many countries that have liberal refugee policies facilitate such quid pro quos that are used by politicians.

This morning a pro-LTTE American Tamil wrote:

[Srilankan‘s only problem now is gas for cooking, a pig in their cramped up prison!  A pig in their cramped-up prison? !! "What the hell are you talking about?" I hear you...I hear you.  You should ask Drawf Fox Ranil and the evil fox Gota to explain their Porcine Theory. How did they unleash the Porcine Concept? A deliberate and artificial shortage of Propane gas and Petrol.]

As per this Tamil’s interpretation of Porcine concept – when prisoners complain of lack of space – the government imprisons a porcine in the same space with the prisoners. Unable to stand the company of porcine the prisoners call for the removal of the porcine and are distracted from their original complaint.

That would also explain how Mullivaikaal ceremonies silenced the Tamil Opposition of LTTE.

Aaya Ram Gaya Ram (Ram has come, Ram has gone)

Tamil Australians who acknowledge my deeper investment in Current Sri Lanka, ask me about the reality in terms of shortages – especially of food.

There is a saying in Tamil that the complaint of lack of salt by one who drinks ‘kanji/rice water and that of lack of sugar by one who drinks milk are equal parallels. One who drinks milk would not even think of rice water. Mr Ranil Wickremesinghe would complain of lack of sugar and not of salt. Likewise, members of the Sri Lankan diaspora.

On 20 May, the ABC (Australia) reported under the headlines - ‘Sri Lanka Prime Minister warns of food shortages amid economic crisis and lack of fertiliser’:

[A decision in April last year by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to ban all chemical fertilisers drastically cut yields and although the government has reversed the ban, no substantial imports have yet taken place.

In a series of tweets late on Thursday, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe noted that the US had forecast a "world food shortage" and identified Sri Lanka and Afghanistan as countries "to be badly affected".]

Neither of the above seems to be ‘Sri Lankan made’. Both are American.

One of the major moves by Gandhi was to forego British makes and hence the handlooms. That was essential to be self-reliant. Some unknown power  (karmic?) seems to have directed me to learn about the folks at grassroots level, after I challenged the Australian authorities on the basis of Racial Discrimination. The courts failed me but I knew that I had shared my experiences with wider Australian community. During the time in courts – migrant women officers who also had felt similar pain confirmed to me after the official sessions -  said that they also had had  similar experiences. To my mind that was sharing of social intelligence in a ‘free’ environment. To the extent it is true intelligence – it is naturally and continuously shared.  This is the power of social media. To my mind, my email communications are structured social media. My ‘internal sharing’ with family and friends is less structured due to high level of commonness.

My responses to the last of the above groups is that they are not as bad as the challenges during the war years. Those who adjusted to reality developed the intelligence towards new ways of life. Hence, the current economic challenges are not an issue for war-victims who learnt to live within their means.  The losses they accepted as reality became their higher intelligence. That is the way karma balances at the individual level.

Exams are going ahead despite the challenges and those students have not complained of hunger and therefore it is difficult for me accept ‘starvation’.

Last week’a Sunday Times article headed ‘GotaGoGama is a non-partisan protest, open to any political ideology, say young activists’ has reported as follows:

[Certain people are trying to hijack the protest site in one way or the other, but all in all this has to be considered as an apolitical movement, said Sahan Weeratunga, on behalf of the protesters…..

“I was involved in making demands. The first and foremost is our main demand for the President to resign, that is the base of the movement. We considered several aspects as well, one of them is human rights violations and preserving human rights. Creating political, economic stability at the same time creating an environmentally-friendly country,” Sahan said.

He added that the Galle Face protest site is a collective which discusses and argues on policy formulation, and how to change the present direction of the country onto a better path.

“We have a tent dedicated as a People’s University at the site, and educating people on policy formation happens there guided by experts,” he said.

Citizens began protesting in areas around the country over a month ago, demanding the President’s resignation and ensuring the country’s political stability as the country’s economic crisis worsened, manifesting in severe shortages of essentials, increasing prices, and protracted power outages.]

The demand for the President’s resignation is in violation of the Constitutional provisions. Breaches of Due Processes lead to structural damages.  The protestors seem to have allowed facilitated this. This would NOT improve the political system but make it more chaotic.

Through that chaos, India’s Tamil Nadu – currently ruled by anti-Hindu leader seems to take come into occupation in  Southern Sri Lanka.

The Daily News reports as follows:

[Several Indian investors in Tamil Nadu keen to invest in Sri Lanka

M. K. Stalin Tamil Nadu Chief Minister ceremoniously hands over samples of 9,000 metric tons of rice, 200 metric tons of cow milk powder and 24 metric tons of essential items over to Sri Lankan Deputy High commissioner Dr Venkateswaran to assist the people of Sri Lanka from the people of Tamil Nadu in Chennai.

…Several Indian investors based in Tamil Nadu are keen to invest in Sri Lanka as they see the current economic crisis as an opportunity, said Sri Lankan Deputy High Commissioner Dr. D. Venkateshwaran in an EXCLUSIVE interview with Daily News Business.

… We also see the Sri Lankan rupee stabilizing and expect some of the commodity prices to come down. It’s now time for the Sri Lankan politicians and also the business community to support the new PM to take the country back to its pre covid position.]

This means that Indians are cleverer in business than Sri Lankans or that the Indians are planning on providing ‘inferior service than Sri Lankans are used to.]

Aaya Ram Gaya Ram (Ram has come, Ram has gone)

Is India through youth horse-trading with the political leadership of Sri Lanka? In 1983 – it was Tamil youth. Now it seems to be Sinhalese youth!

SRI LANKAN PROTESTORS WITH AMERICAN MINDS?

I received an expression of appreciation from Dr C A Saliya, to my analysis headed ‘GENOCIDE CLAIM & BUDDHISM FOREMOST ARTICLE’ :

‘I love this piece of writing. Thanks’ As per Dr Saliya’s CV – he is a Chartered Accountant. Hence I responded as follows:

‘Thank you. One Balanced Accountant knows the other’

My attention was then drawn to the Colombo Telegraph article ‘Fearmongering & Spreading Rumors By Indian Intelligence In Sri Lanka’ by Dr  Murali Vallipuranathan who is presented  as follows:

[A visiting lecturer at the Universities of Jaffna and Colombo, a Senior Specialist of the Ministry of Health and a Council Member of the Sri Lanka Medical Association. He claims the opinion expressed in this article with social responsibility aims to improve the public awareness on good governance, promotes healthy discussion for a system change and in no way reflects his official positions.]

Dr Vallipuranathan is taking status benefit through his medical work but not for any loss associated with his writing work. That is like Mr Wigneswaran carrying his ‘Justice’ status but does not take responsibility for losses through his political work at National level.

The writer refers us to the Daily News report dated 16 May headed ‘Wigneswaran extends support to PM’.  As per this report:

[“Although Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s UNP had only one Parliamentary seat, he went on to become the Prime Minister of the country and likewise although we have only a solitary seat in Parliament we will use it to solve Tamil people’s issues,” Wigneswaran said.]

Dr Murali’s interpretation of the above is presented as follows:

Tamil party leaders (https://dailynews.lk/2022/05/16/political/278911/wigneswaran-extends-support-pm?page=15 ) and media controlled by India, are spreading the story that none other than RW can save Sri Lanka as the savior of the Sri Lankan economy in the current context.

In other words – Mr Wigneswaran, according to Dr Murali is the medium of the Indian government.

Dr Murali presents also the influence of  Global and Regional powers as follows:

[As popular uprisings intensified in Galle Face and other parts of the country, superpower US and regional power India feared the formation of a left-wing government in Sri Lanka would result in not listening to them and not supporting their interests in the region. RW has been chosen as the appropriate agent to prevent it.]

I highlighted this as JVP & LTTE  becoming the media of Communist China.

The coalition between Indian and American governments is, to my mind best understood through QUAD  , presented as follows by Wikipedia:

[The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QSD), colloquially the Quad …, is a strategic security dialogue between Australia, India, Japan, and the United States that is maintained by talks between member countries. …During the 2017 ASEAN Summits in Manila, all four former members led by  Shinzo Abe, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and US President Donald Trump agreed to revive the quadrilateral alliance in order to counter China  militarily and diplomatically in the "Indo-Pacific" region, particularly in the South China Sea. Tensions between Quad members and China have led to fears of what was dubbed by some commentators "a new Cold War" in the region.]

Indian elder Mr M K Bhadrakumar  shares his insight as follows at

https://www.indianpunchline.com/indias-quad-dilemma-in-sri-lanka/

India’s Quad Dilemma in Sri Lanka

Rajapaksa playing golf on a Chinese turf on Modi’s 70th birthday? Three big developments in the geopolitics of Sri Lanka may explain it. First, on August 26, the US State Department announced sanctions against twenty-four Chinese state-owned enterprises, including several subsidiaries of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), which was described as “one of the leading contractors used by Beijing in its global “One Belt One Road” strategy.”

Washington has messaged that China “must not be allowed to use CCCC and other state-owned enterprises as weapons to impose an expansionist agenda.” In a background briefing on the subject, a senior state department official in Washington pointedly referred to Sri Lanka, saying, “In Sri Lanka, there have been longstanding accusations of corruption and bribery involving China Harbor Engineering corp and the Hambantota Port project, which is very well known in the Belt and Road story.”

And in what appeared to be a reference to India, he also claimed, “The kind of concerns that we have… are very widely shared and increasingly widely shared, and we know that other countries obviously are looking at scrutinising their policies with respect to their diverse relationships with China in terms of business, academic exchange, visa, and much else.”

From all appearance, a renewed US-Indian move is afoot to undermine China’s Belt and Road projects in Sri Lanka, especially the flag carrier — Colombo Port City, which a CCCC subsidiary is executing. The Indian officials have forecast that big trouble awaits Colombo Port City project.

The US sanctions come at a time when Chinese-built infrastructure projects such as the Hambantota Port, Mattala International Airport or the upcoming Colombo Port City are lobbying for investment from foreign investors.

A Colombo-based commentator wrote, “Sri Lanka is confronted with the hard reality of geopolitics… Sri Lanka’s external environment has drastically changed… (but) our domestic needs for large scale investments for infrastructure development have not. China remains the place to go… China would be the only large economy to record positive economic growth this year… (India) has recorded negative growth of 16%. Domestic worries would leave little appetite for an expansive (Indian) economic engagement abroad.”

Be that as it may, in a related development only four days later, US Defence Secretary Mark Esper telephoned Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on August 30 to discuss “their shared commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific that ensures the sovereignty of all nations.”

The Pentagon readout said, “Reviewing common bilateral defence priorities, they noted opportunities to enhance military professionalisation, counter-terrorism, and maritime security cooperation. Both leaders expressed their commitment to expanding bilateral defence relations and to advancing shared interests.” Esper later tweeted that he discussed “the international security environment” with President Rajapaksa.

Curiously, Esper also “urged continued progress on reconciliation and human rights in Sri Lanka”. In effect, he threatened Rajapaksa under whose stewardship as Sri Lankan defence secretary (while a US citizen still), the bloodiest phase of the war against the LTTE took place.

That was indeed an extraordinary phone call—the first in living memory from a US defence chief to a Sri Lankan president. Esper made the call while on a visit to Guam on yet another Quad mission to counter China.

Colombo has kept mum about the real purpose of Esper’s call. The point is, the US expects Colombo to finalise a Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) with the US, the handing over of Colombo Port’s Eastern Terminal to India, and a $US480 million grant agreement with the Millennium Challenge Corporation (an instrument of US foreign policy.) Washington is insisting on an immediate response so that US-Sri Lanka defence cooperation can be integrated into the Quad strategies in the Indian Ocean region.

The Sri Lankan nationalists oppose the transfer of a Colombo Port terminal to India and any erosion in the country’s strategic autonomy. Foreign Secretary Colombage said in a recent interview, “We have to balance. The President has outlined a few specific things. Sri Lanka should be a neutral country. Sri Lanka does not want to be caught up in the power game.”

What emerges is that the close coordination between Washington and Delhi to counter China in the recent years has become the geopolitics of Sri Lanka — no longer the Tamil problem. India used to regard Sri Lanka as its backyard and resented foreign military presence there, and leveraged the Tamil problem to that end. But under Modi, the Quad has become the principal locomotive of India’s regional strategies.

The first major US-Indian project was the successful regime change in Sri Lanka in 2015. Since then, India has been working hard to create underpinnings for a US military presence in the Maldives. These efforts came to fruition on September 10, when Maldives and the US signed a framework  for defence and security relationship with view to “deepen engagement and cooperation in support of maintaining peace and security in the Indian Ocean…and promote a free and open Indo-Pacific.”

It is against such a backdrop that we need to assess a third development that is unfolding on the Sri Lankan political landscape — President Rajapaksa’s announcement 3 days after the phone call from Esper, proposing a new constitution for the country signalling changes to its electoral system and the restoration of executive presidency.

Of course, the drafting of a new constitution will be time-consuming. It will also probably mean that all mega decisions will be relegated to the back burner — the SOFA, award of Colombo Port to India, MCC agreement, etc. And Esper may have to remain patient. This may in all probability get carried over to beyond November 3.

Meanwhile, Mahinda Rajapaksa’s visit to Colombo Port City on Thursday has underscored that the BRI projects in Sri Lanka are non-negotiable. Rajapaksa said during the site visit that the Colombo Port City project will be Sri Lanka’s main income source in the years to come. He thanked the Chinese Government for funding the project.

To my mind, having worked in Sri Lanka as a diplomat in the early and mid-1980s when India was actively promoting the Tamil militant groups, I cannot but admire the tenacity of that small country’s diplomacy and statecraft to constantly think up ideas to navigate diplomatic minefields and preserve the country’s strategic autonomy while also carrying India along.

From such a perspective, Mahinda Rajapaksa’s brilliant move last week to ban slaughtering of cows in Sri Lanka is a shrewd initiative. Sri Lankans, 99 percent of whom are meat eaters, will instead make do with imported beef!  To be sure, the tough, wily Sri Lankan leader is aware of the seamless possibilities of bovine politics in the subcontinent, which has an economic dimension, a religious dimension and a political dimension.

Rajapaksa may now add a diplomatic dimension to it as well.  The powers that be who rule the roost in Delhi would have received the news from across the Palk Strait with ecstatic joy and fraternal feelings of kinship. Between the cow and the Quad, their preference is a foregone conclusion.

The heart of the matter is that both Mahinda Rajapaksa and Modi have learnt from their past mistakes. Rajapaksa erred in his over-confidence that he could outwit Delhi, and didn’t take notice of the GM seeds, genetically modified in the Indian and American labs, being secretly planted right beneath his feet, until the sturdy growth uprooted him in 2015.

This time around, Rajapaksa made sure that the ground beneath his feet is made of concrete where not a blade of grass grows. Modi too has understood that Rajapaksa is a “forever politician” India has to live with. Splitting a political party and doing horse-trading over fickle-minded politicians comes easy to the Indian strategists, but engineering defections from a tightly knit family is difficult, and may prove ultimately futile.]

Global Reality

The above clearly explains why the Protestors gathered at Galle Face in front of Port City, why the President was asked to ‘Go Home’ despite the Constitution not allowing it , why Mr Mahinda Rajapaksa stepped down to make way for Mr Ranil Wickremesinghe and most importantly why the Americans chose to pass Resolution at UN level and banned  LTTE . That is however our global reality. As per my belief – the pandemic happened due to ‘Silk Road’ heritage being used for economic purposes. That is like disturbing the grave of a respected elder. The costs become exponential in current terms. The plague of the Silk Road became the Pandemic of the BRI.

GENOCIDE CLAIM & BUDDHISM FOREMOST ARTICLE

The Tamil Genocide claim is currently under perusal in Canadian Court. It affects not only Tamils but also Canada intelligence.

We make judgments at three levels:

Emotional

Intellectual

Philosophical

Emotional Balancing

The person driven by gross senses tends to use emotions and they are valid when the person is true to her/himself. Whether s/he is true to her/himself is tested through pleasure and pain at different times. Where pleasure is experienced before pain – the pain is greater than pleasure due to time ‘gap’. This is like interest payable on loans. When pain is experienced before pleasure -  the pleasure is greater than pain – due to time gap. This is like interest earned. In both – the place/person is frozen with zero change. This usually is the basis of Autocracy

It works well with small institutions such as families where one has the pleasure and the other the pain. Such an institution would be true to itself and therefore would be driven by its Soul-power.

Intellectual Balancing

The intellectually driven person – needs to show at least to her/himself – (have knowledge) the Equality  between causes and effects. Some of these would be invisible but the intellect must register them.  Pain or Pleasure needs to be written in that brain to ‘know’ the Equality. Mental imbalances happen when one is great than the other – such as in bipolar disorder in an individual who imagines pleasure or pain.  When it is more than one person – institutionally time is frozen and the  knowledge of the whole needs to be balanced as Costs and Benefits. Cost of one becomes benefit of the other at the same time – at knowledge level. Laws specific to the institutions bring about this balance. If there is a right action – then there has to be a wrong action too and v.v. – as per the same law/rule. In terms of ownership – Benefits and Costs accumulate as Rights and Duties. Where there is a right there is a duty and v.v.

Where there are greater allocations of ‘rights’ than duties – there is mental imbalance in the whole.

Work is often the basis of measure at institutional level. When benefits are taken by one for the other’s work costs – there is natural conflict between the two. Sri Lanka’s Standardization Policy 1971 had this intellectual imbalance. In all cases those who benefitted more than the other for the same level of work, developed ‘mental disorder’ due to ‘imaginary benefits – known as hyper-excitement / Aarvakkolaru(Tamil) .  It has the effects of ‘intoxication’ .  Likewise, those who accepted that lower return became a Depressed part of the whole.  Not so – those who rejected it mentally. Their mental opposition made them even at knowledge level.  Hence the higher intelligence of Tamils of Sri Lanka who non-violently Opposed and eliminated the cause of the hyper-excitement. This Opportunity is ‘lost’ to those who take an ‘eye for an eye’.

Philosophical Balance

Emotions are one sided, intellect is two sided and Philosophy has no sides. At the lowest level – it is known as ‘belief’. When someone believes in the whole s/he is recognized as a Philosopher. The who could be an ‘issue’ or a group of People. The former is recognized through award of doctorate and the latter through the title of ‘Honour’.

Philosophy / Belief is the end of both of the above pathways.

Sri Lanka

Once – a Sri Lankan of Sinhalese origin said to me that in their circles Tamils were referred to as those who small of ‘Thala’ (sesame ). Then she asked me in return – how Tamils referred to her community. I said ‘Modayas’ (Fools). Later I thought that this was developed because Tamils were able to fool the Sinhalese.  But wiser now – I realize that  it was the policies that Tamils mentally opposed from 1956  - that kept them mentally stable.

But when we started taking revenge – an eye for an eye – we became Muttaals / Modayas / Fools. When we used Armed Forces to ‘win’ – we got even and Equal to the very group we referred to as ‘Modayas’.

The Rajapaksa government ‘fell’ in the eyes of ‘Sinhalese’ due to the economic hardship of the Sinhalese.  Those who take more remuneration  than the consolidated value of the predecessors – adjusted for inflation or deflation – become lose intellectual balance. This was observed in the immediate past President of Sri Lanka – Mr Maithripala Sirisena. The one before him – Mr Mahinda Rajapaksa did not himself lose much intelligence but those who depended on him did. Hence the call for President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to go home. That is a belief based  call – due to his emigration to America.

Genocide Claim by Tamil Political Leaders

The loss and pain suffered during the war years was experienced by the Tamil community. The quiet opposition without any mental or physical violence confirmed that they had developed ‘ownership rights’ to the extent they consider their part of Sri Lanka their ‘home’.  This could be emotional – as demonstrated by physical occupation of that place or intellectual by balancing Sri Lankan benefits with Sri Lankan costs  or Philosophical / Belief based – which means our policies are Sri Lankan and no other in Sri Lankan issues.

If the losses and pain – due to war are taken to have been caused by Sinhalese – then to that mind it is possible that it would feel like ‘Genocide’.  But such leaders would then not seek to be represented in National Parliament of Sri Lanka.

In terms of those who do feel that it was Genocide – LTTE was a miserable failure because it was unable to protect them. LTTE was brave and clever. Their cleverness was due largely to caste based discrimination that they mentally opposed. But that was seriously weakened when they killed Tamils in leadership positions. Eventually when they ‘took’ equal or higher status than intellectuals, they became Muttaals / Modayas / Fools. That heritage is being carried forward by their heirs as ‘Genocide’ claims which automatically confirms that they were not able to defend and protect the very people they claimed to represent. War Crimes – yes. Not Genocide which takes away their Great Heroes status from those they represented through Belief.

Buddhism Foremost Artilce

A Constitution – needs to be based on Belief of the whole. This is confirmed through the intellectual balance that the Policy represents.  Article 9 which was introduced in the first Constitution of Sri Lanka affords foremost status to Buddhism. This means that Buddhism is not capable of balancing itself in the mind of the believer.   If done for political reasons – it does not apply to Non-Buddhists – including Sinhalese who do not believe in Buddhism. This means they naturally separate from Buddhists.  By keeping it in the Constitution – the government continues to lose intellectual balance – especially when it demonstrates high respect to Buddhist clergy and Buddhist places of worship. According to Article 9 the Government had the Duty to facilitate all religions to practice their respective religions. A brain that recognizes Equal status and foremost status at the same space is bipolar in terms of space. The Constitution that affords foremost status to any group is autocratic and hence would groom monarchs who would need to ‘show’ money wealth above intellectual balance developed through Democracy.
