Julian Assange & Channel 4

 

The email from Tamil Diaspora Media was headed ‘At A Time Of Rapidly Creeping Authoritarianism, Assange’s Freedom Is More Crucial Than Ever’ The original was from fellow Australian Caitlin Johnstone. Julian is also fellow Australian. Hence I draw on my experience based feelings to share my Independence Energy, with Julian. To me that is what Universal Franchise is all about. I believe through my direct experience that Belief of the common junior is the power that operates the system of democracy successfully. The outcomes are often likely to be negative as per the structured system but when one knows that the ‘soul-connection’ has been made through belief – that feeling is far more fulfilling than any top-down verdict that an autocratic system would deliver.  The Judiciary also could become autocratic due to dependence on intellectual cleverness at the cost of Universal power of truth.

Julian’s case began with Chelsea Manning – an Intelligence Analyst with the United States Army stationed in Iraq.

Intelligence Analysis is presented as follows by Wikipedia:

[Intelligence analysis is the application of individual and collective cognitive methods to weigh data and test hypotheses within a secret socio-cultural context. The descriptions are drawn from what may only be available in the form of deliberately deceptive information; the analyst must correlate the similarities among deceptions and extract a common truth. ]

Most of my articles would fall within this category. My Ultimate judge is the truth that I discover. That protects me at all times and in all environments. I do experience pain from time to time but ultimately that true pain becomes my protection from getting cheated by others. The rest is false pain and is deceptive and vanishes the closer I get to truth. The higher the standard of the pathway used – the quicker the vanishing speed of Maya/illusion.

The accusation in Julian’s case was about sharing of confidential information stored in the depths of American minds in relation to wars in Iraq and in Afghanistan. Wikipedia which example Julian is reported to have thought he was following in setting up  Wikileaks for whistle-blowers, reports as follows about the Iraqi war intelligence:

An anonymous U.S. military official confirmed the authenticity of the footage, which provoked global discussion on the legality and morality of the attacks.]

 

The parallel of that was ‘Sri Lanka's Killing Fields’ documentary by UK’s ITN Productions. The information was from Sri Lankan Armed officers about the conduct of other officers within the Sri Lankan Armed Forces. The actions covered were more barbaric in the case of Sri Lanka but the corpus is identical to that of the ‘Iraqi collateral murder’ and the purpose in both was to get credits through the killing of aliens who are named ‘insurgents’ by the governments.

To my mind, if Assange is extradited to the USA,  then Callum Macrae of Channel 4, ITN Productions also ought to be extradited to Sri Lanka to stand trial in Sri Lanka and be punished by the Sri Lankan Judiciary. That is when we keep the balanced wheels of global justice leading all of us to self-governance.

The UN Resolution regarding war-crimes allegations against the Sri Lankan government was led by America. If Julian is extradited to USA – Australia has the moral obligation to have no war-partnerships with the UK or the USA – including against China – from where Australian journalists are being recalled . The way China officially assesses espionage would be different to the way Australia assesses. Likewise, the way Americans assess insurgency would be different to the way Iraqis assess insurgency. Likewise the way a Sinhalese soldier assesses insurgency would be different to the way a Tamil soldier would assess insurgency by her/himself and v.v. Since Tamil areas were attacked largely by Sinhalese – such killings were immoral and in serious violation of the fundamental values of  Common Governance  - especially where lives get taken by ‘foreign’ forces. Sinhalese forces were foreign to Tamils who by belief are of different culture to Sinhala-Buddhists. This resulted in Tamil politicians remaining ignorant of the Preferential Voting system and its immoral breach of the fundamentals of Universal Franchise. They were made law by Sinhalese. Unlike in Australia where Branch-stacking is combated at party level – Sri Lankans seem to have blindly accepted similar practices that lead to takeover of rights of citizens to be manipulated by greedy politicians. Usually the underpinning reason is economic dependence of the citizen.

The UK Judiciary needs to consider this issue in global context and not on the basis of relative status. Ultimately Julian will be judged by his own conscience and the UK Judiciary by its conscience.
