EASTER ATTACK – HOW THE MEDIA FAILED THE PUBLIC

MP Sumanthiran drew our attention to the current state of affairs of the Easter Bombing inquiry as follows:

With a former AG and the head of the CID claiming that there was a conspiracy and an involvement of State intelligence personnel in these attacks one has to surmise there is indeed a grand conspiracy not only in carrying out the attacks but in the cover-up

We were also referred to Daily FT article ‘The cover-up as bad as the crime’ at https://www.ft.lk/ft_view__editorial/The-cover-up-as-bad-as-the-crime/58-747609

This medium published my article ‘Easter Bombings in Sri Lanka – Déjà vu? http://austms.blogspot.com/2019/07/

In that article, I have included the following about Easter Sunday bombings on 05 April 1942:

Among those shot down, one fell near St. Thomas’ College, one closer to the Bellanwila paddy fields, one near Pita Kotte, one on the racecourse in Colombo, one near Horana and one on the Galle Face Green. A bomb fell off the target and damaged the Mulleriyawa Mental Hospital, killing some inmates.’

The 1942 attack was by outsiders. If the 2019 attack was caused by outside influence, then it would be a waste of resources to look within.

At the public level, we need to know the Truth and not who was right or wrong as per the law. Indicators need to be used towards this:

As per this month’s report:

In July 2020 under the Gotabaya Rajapaksa presidency, SSP Abeysekera was arrested by the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) which accused him of introducing weapons to implicate former Deputy Inspector-General Vass Gunawardena, who was convicted of the 2013 murder of businessman Mohamed Shiyam.

If  Mohamed Shiyam had been a good Muslim and Inspector General - Vass Gunawardena had used subjective powers to punish him, the matter would have been accelerated to the level of Natural Justice because a Buddhist has no legal authority to punish a Muslim without independent evidence.  If such were the case, the karma would get carried forward to the next phase. In this instance it is the arrest of SSP Abeysekera.

If former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa did influence the arrest directly or indirectly, then his negative karma would have been exponentially strengthened.

The connection to this is known through the common place the Galle Face Green which accumulated the pain of 1942 Easter Bombings. Galle Face Green was like the garden of the old Parliament Building since 1930.  Hence the 1942 pain would remain there until elimination by positive karma.

That is the way Dharma works when the official system becomes unjust.

The public who genuinely participate in the pain, will intuitively know the truth. This would then be the basis of a Democratic vote.

When Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa became President in November 2019, he added to his war karma, this 1942 bombing pain experienced by the Public. With time it surfaced through Aragalaya protestors who elected him. When we are disorderly in our current positions we invoke our personal karma as individuals.

This is all, the public need to know. The Administration is the responsibility of the government. The media has the duty to discover the Truth, for which it is entitled to be free. If that had happened in April 2019, Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa would not have become President and he would have been saved the disgrace of the dismissal.

Media that publishes the truth as it sees it contributes directly to self-governance. When the media delivers ‘judgment’ as per the law, it fails the public.
