THE NEW PRESIDENT RECOGNISES INSURGENCY

At the early stages of the ‘protests’ I shared my feelings that JVP was involved in this. Each time I had further indicators, I kept sharing them. An owner has feelings and that is never wrong for the person or the believers in the group that it is shared with. I did not share my mind with JVP but I learnt about them through others in media circles who felt for them. This, coupled with their Tamil Twin – the LTTE, who had common mind structure, led to insight into their mind.

I was also strongly critical of the way – President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was ‘dismissed’ by the crowd cheered by the media – especially the foreign media due to my firm belief in the system of Democracy and a constitution born through Democracy. Today when I received the following from a Sri Lankan veteran journalist, I felt fulfilled and that would add strength to lawful structures:

Sri Lankan PM Ranil Wickremesinghe sworn in as interim President, vows to restore law and order

[Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has been sworn in as Sri Lanka's interim President until parliament elects a successor to Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who resigned after mass protests over the country's economic collapse forced him from office.

The Speaker of Sri Lanka's parliament said Mr Rajapaksa resigned as president effective on Thursday and politicians would convene on Saturday to choose a new leader.

Their choice would serve out the remainder of Mr Rajapaksa's term ending in 2024, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana said.

He expects the process to be done in seven days.

Mr Wickremesinghe will lead the country in the meantime.

With Mr Rajapaksa forced out, pressure on Mr Wickremesinghe was rising.]

The ABC report highlights as follows:

• Ranil Wickremesinghe says he will initiate steps to curb presidential powers and strengthen parliament 
• He says he will also restore law and order and take legal action against "insurgents" 
• The process to elect a new president and prime minister for the country could be done in about seven days

 

It is credible reporting that I am able to identify with, and therefore mind merge with the various ‘positions’ in the system. That I feel is the way ‘belief’ works.

The protestors, who are not structured by Parliamentary culture and more importantly, the provisions in the Constitution,  became the medium through which ‘insurgency’ which is a permanent force in Sri Lanka , found its way to the Parliament.

To my mind, believers in the constitution in its current form, will empower the position of Executive President, whose current occupant is, as per my mind, the best fit in Parliament, as a law abiding leader. When this happens, the economy will become more healthy.

Sri Lankans have long left it to the politicians to lead. Most politicians are mere representatives and not leaders. The value in that is for us to participate in self governance anyway we can,  by channelling our Energies through the member/s we identify with. We would then connect to the mind of the Parliament and that is how we would drive the Parliament. Those who have knowledge of law must use, wherever possible, the language of law to share their beliefs – so that we have the blessings of Parliamentary elders who share that heritage with us. Heritages look after themselves. All we need to do is respect them.

 The more we follow the lay persons who have little knowledge of law, the weaker our investment in Parliament. That would make the Parliament a white elephant.
