COMMISSION
OF INQUIRY & SAINT YOGA SWAMI
On
18 January, the ‘dismissal of’ Commission of inquiry by Tamil leadership was presented
as follows:
[Tamil Makkal
Thesiya Kutani (TMTK) leader C.V. Wigneswaran, MP, alleged in Jaffna on Monday
(18) that the government was making a fresh bid to deceive the Genava-based
United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) by appointing another Commission of
Inquiry.
Former
Justice Wigneswaran, who served as the Chief Minister of the Northern Province
during Mahinda Rajapaksa’s tenure as the President, emphasised that there was
absolutely no use in appointing a CoI now.
The
46th Geneva sessions are scheduled for Feb-March 2021.]
Today’s
Sunday Times Political Editorial presents the following:
[On Friday, the Government announced one of
its countermeasures in the wake of the UNHRC sessions in Geneva. A gazette
notification issued by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said a three-member
Commission of Inquiry has been appointed to “investigate and inquire” into the
following matters:
(a)
Find out whether preceding Commissions of Inquiry and Committees which have
been appointed to investigate into human rights violations, have revealed any
human rights violations, serious violations of the international humanitarian
law and other such serious offences.
(b)
Identify what are the findings of the said Commissions and Committees related
to the serious violations of human rights, serious violations of international
humanitarian laws and other such offences and whether recommendations have been
made on how to deal with the said facts.
(c)
Manner in which those recommendations have been implemented so far in terms of
the existing law and what steps need to be taken to implement those
recommendations further in line with the present Government policy.
(d)
Overseeing of whether action is being taken according to (b) and (c) above.
The
Commission is headed by Supreme Court Justice A.H.M.D. Nawaz. He has
served previously in Sri Lanka delegations to the UNHRC sessions in Geneva.
Chandra Fernando, a retired Inspector-General of Police, and Nimal Abeysiri, a
retired District Secretary, are the other members. They have been asked to
submit their final report in six months. This is the second Commission of
Inquiry. The first was the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC)
after the Tiger guerrillas were militarily defeated.]
The editorial begins with a lesson on
Diplomacy:
[ American playwright, actor, and journalist Will
Rogers declared, “Diplomacy is the art of saying ‘nice doggie’ until you can
find a stone.” Added Adolf Hitler, “when diplomacy ends, war begins.”]
The Commissions
of Inquiry are also Diplomatic missions. If Mr Wigneswaran had been in the
Supreme Court and if he had been chosen to be part of the Commission, it is
highly unlikely that he would be looking for the ‘stone’ to dismiss. As if to
guide me in this regard, I received an email regarding Tamil Saint Yoga Swami
around the same time as I received one that discussed the role of Ms Kamala
Harris in Sri Lankan Tamil issue. The first addressee in that email was Mr
Wigneswaran. Mr Wigneswaran was in the
video about Saint Yoga Swami. In that dialogue, Mr Wigneswaran reveals that
when he went with his father to see Yoga Swami in 1963, Swami had said to his
father words to the effect ‘ What is our
relationship? you and I do not have a
relationship’ Mr Wigneswaran says that when Swami passed away in 1964 –
they concluded that the message was that they would not ‘see’ each other any
more.
My father also
believed in Yoga Swami and asked Swami to name me. Later when I was to be
operated on to take out the seed I had playfully inserted into my nostril my
father sought the intervention of Swami. Then on the morning Swami left his
mortal coil, Swami came in my dream. I mentioned it to my mother and later we
learnt that Swami had attained Samadhi/left his mortal coil. To me they were
all confirmations that I had experienced
Swami.
So, to the
person who showed expectations of support from Ms Kamala Harris, I responded as
follows:
[
That was the direction that Chellappah Swami – Guru of
Yoga Swami had given Yoga Swami at Nallur. The full version is:
“Yaarada Nee? Therada Ull; Theerada Pattru”
‘Who
are you; Seek Within ; Renounce Attachment.’
When educated persons are elected as political
leaders, their reliance in the path of belief is diluted. My father was not
highly educated. But he believed and belief gave him indicators from within.
But those who are ‘attached’ to the visible and knowable outcomes would weaken
the power of ‘insight’ that helps us see ourselves through the light from our
Soul.
One who has such insight into Tamil issue – would use
the UN to publish her/his work and not to expect the UN to do the work.
In October last year, Jaffna Tamil Politicians
celebrated Mahatma Gandhi reported by the Consulate as follows:
[The Consulate General of India in Jaffna
celebrated the 151st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi as the grand finale of
the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi by organizing a series of events
in the Northern Province this day (2nd October 2020). The main celebrations
were held at the Gandhi Statue, Cargills Square, Jaffna. Consul General
Balachandran garlanded the Gandhi statue and paid floral tributes. Hon’ble
Members of Parliament Mr.Siddharthan & Mr.Sritharan, Northern Provincial
Council Chairman Mr.C V K Sivagnanam, former Members of Parliament Mr.Mavai
Senathirajah, Mr.Saravanapavan & Mr.Suresh Premachandran, Jaffna University
Vice Chancellor, Professors, Jaffna District GA, Education Secretary, Jaffna
Municipal Commissioner, representatives of main political parties such as
Mr.M.K.Shivajilingam, Mrs.Ananthi Sasitharan, Mrs.Umachandra Pragash,
Mr.Gajadeepan, All Ceylon Gandhi Seva Sangam
Assistant Secretary Mr.M.Santhan Sathiyakirthi and other prominent dignitaries
similarly garlanded the Gandhi statue and paid floral tributes.]
The
return was known through Mr Gajadeepan,
[23 January - Tamil
residents are protesting land grabs by the Sri Lankan Navy which began
surveying the Mandaitivu and Mankumban regions of Jaffna on Monday to establish
navy bases.
Prior to this, former provincial councillor B. Gajadeepan
organised the protests demanding unity in opposition to the land acquisitions.
15 January ……The Sri Lankan navy has stepped up land grab
operations in Pungudutivu, a coastal island off the Jaffna peninsula.
Earlier this year the navy attempted to expropriate 14 acres of
publicly owned land, including land occupied by the Malayadi Nachimar Temple
with the permission of the Velanai Divisional Secretary, for the Kottayam navy
camp.
The soil in the area is known to be the most fertile region in
Pungudutivu.
The navy abandoned the land surveying attempts in response to protests
organized by Velanai Divisional Council member Karunakaran Navalan. Where Tamil
politicians, such as Tamil National People's Front (TNPF) member Selvarajah
Kajendran, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) members including Vinthan
Kanagaratnam, and other locals in the area all came together to stage a sit-in
protest.
A land acquisition notice was sent by the Velanai Divisional
Secretary for Naval defense. Residents are preparing to dispute any land grab
attempts and appeal to the larger community for support.
Expropriation of civilian land in the North-East have escalated
since the appointment of Gotabaya Rajapaksa as Sri Lanka’s president last year,
with an increase in incidents of Tamil residents facing intimidation and
displacement.] – Tamil Guardian
The Uniting power
between the two Tamil groups is Gandhi power. When one sacrifices personally
for the common good unity happens naturally and instantaneously. Not so war
power. THAT is the advantage we as minorities have over those who celebrate war
victory in many forms. When we react – we lose the opportunity to own like true
mothers do.
