Karmic Forces in the US Elections
Yesterday, on an auspicious day - by what seemed
like a pleasant accident, we started watching the special poojah at Trincomalee
Kali temple, Sri Lanka, through OHM TV. I felt that it was our karmic return for
going to that temple practically every day early this year, when we were in
Trincomalee. I felt good. This morning when
I read the headlines of Island Editorial – ‘Karmic forces at work?’ – I was
intrigued. To identify with karmic outcomes one needs identity with the truth
that resides in the root. It cannot be known through the physical senses nor
intellectual calculations. That editorial
was about the US elections and included the following:
[National
security is the be-all and end-all of any state, big or small. We have
experienced the adverse consequences of political interference with the
national security apparatus firsthand, not once but twice. In the early
noughties, a change of government led to the upending of the defence
establishment and a witch-hunt against state-intelligence officers, whose
identities were revealed and gunned down by the LTTE. A similar situation arose
following the 2015 regime change, and more than 250 people perished in
terrorist bombings last year due to the debilitation of the state intelligence
agencies.
President Trump seems to have taken a leaf
out of President Maithripala Sirisena’s book; Sirisena prevented the Prime
Minister, the Defence Secretary, the IGP and others from attending the National
Security Council meetings. Sirisena made a mess of national security and
rendered the country extremely vulnerable.]
A strong indicator of karmic force is one’s
character. To my mind Mr Sirisena’s is like that of a cat while Mr Trump’s is
like that of a tiger. In the 2005 Presidential elections, Mr Rajapaksa
influenced the LTTE which forced the Tamils not to vote. In 2009 – that same
President killed the LTTE in combat. It happened largely due to the characters
of the two leaders being similar.
In terms of the US elections – ‘Tamils for Clinton’
group was reported have been made up and funded by aggressive characters who
were largely supporters of the LTTE. Galleon
Hedge Fund Manager Raj Rajaratnam also was reported to have funded this group.
To
the extent the feelings were genuine – the karma manifested itself through Ms
Kamala Harris in the 2020 elections. That is like elevation beyond Electoral
College to Electoral University. The editorial reflects misreading karma in
this instance also:
[The US has helped many
Presidents cling on to power in the face of electoral defeats and popular
protests, in other parts of the world, and also had popularly elected
Presidents ousted in some countries. Have the chickens come home to roost?]
That brings us to Mr Basil Rajapaksa’s possible
entry into Sri Lankan parliament through the National list. Daily FT report ‘MPs urge Basil to enter Parliament soon’- includes
the following in this regard:
[A group, of SLPP/SLFP MPs have handed over a letter to the Party’s
National Organiser Basil Rajapaksa requesting him to enter Parliament soon and
guide the Government in its economic activities.
The letter states it was Basil Rajapaksa who created the SLPP and turned it
into a political party which managed to secure victory at the Local Government
Election, Presidential Election, and the General Election in a short span of
four years.
The letter has been signed by MPs
Sampath Athukorala, Pradeep Uduhoda, Angajan Ramanathan, Cader Masthan, Dr.
Upul Galappatti, Ashok Priyantha, Sanjeewa Edirimanne, Sahan Pradeep, Akila
Ellawala, Nalaka Bandara Kottegoda, Amarakeerthi Athukorala, Wasantha Yapa
Bandara, W.D. Weerasinghe, H. Nandasena, Kumarasiri Ratnayake, Sudarshana
Denipitiya, Rajika Wickremesinghe, Nipuna Ranawaka and Sampath Athukorala.]
The
above is like the popular vote that Hilary Clinton got during the 2016
Presidential elections. In Jaffna district - Mr Angajan Ramanathan who is also
in the above group polled highest number of preferential votes which are the
unprocessed popular votes. Where characters are similar they merge naturally,
unless consciously overridden. In a way this was the parallel of the 2005
victory that Mr Rajapaksa achieved through his characteristics similar to LTTE
leader.
The problem that these popular leaders fail to see
is the possibility of American karma happening in Sri Lanka through leaders who
are dual citizens.
