The Ex UN Mandate and the Ex Jaffna Mandate

The official function at the medical faculty was attended by the Chief Minister Vigneswaran, Vice Chancellor Vigneswaran,Provincial Health Minister Dr.Sathiyalingam, Director Teaching Hospital Jaffna Dr.Sathiyamoorthy, Medical Dean Dr.Raviraj,  senior Orthopaedic surgeons from Sing Health as well as nurses and physiotherapists from Singapore along with local staff and students.
Two requests were made to Dr.Balakrishnan. One was by the Dean Dr.Raviraj, requesting him to help get the Singapore Medical Council to give recognition to the Jaffna Faculty's MBBS degree as it has to Colombo. The CM asked for help from the Singapore Civil Service College to train our civil servants in good governance, budgeting and administration and to help set up a similar institution here in the north. Several speakers commented on the words of Lee Kuan Yew in the 1960s on a visit to Ceylon when he said that S'pore looked to Ceylon as an example for development but now we needed to learn from S'pore!(Lee was of course to also point out later how  badly we had missed the boat!)
In his eloquent speech Dr.Balakrishnan, while thanking the hosts, paid glowing tribute to the debt that Singapore owes to Ceylon Tamils for the immense contributions they made in developing the island to the super city state that it now is.He touched on the contributions made in politics, education and medicine. He hoped that his staff could identify the Jaffna ancestral home of S.Rajaratnam, the legendary first  FM of Singapore and close confidante of Lee Kuan Yew so that he could pay homage! He mentioned how the second Dean of this Faculty,Prof.Kanagasunderam had taught him anatomy as an undergraduate in S'pore and when he was preparing for his FRCS Part 1! Dr.Balakrishnan went on to say that the Lee Foundation Orthopaedic program for Jaffna was not an act of charity but rather a small act of giving back to Jaffna for the immense contribution it made to Singapore.’  - Tamil Diaspora News
My response to the above was as follows
‘Disappointed that Mr. Wigneswaran has asked for help    from Singapore Civil Service College to train those here.  I trained Singaporeans in Financial Management. I trained Australians in Democratic Resource Management systems. I submitted my proposals to TNA.   This is outright discrimination by the CM. This confirms also that his  choice of Ms Ananthi Sasitharan is not on merit.  But others keep asking in small packages and that is the way we are going to develop. The big fish are too distracted. Professor Sathananthan of Monash University – honoured me by asking me to go to the camps in 2009 and to write the reports for funding – which I did. My services were commissioned through UNDP in 2003 – to establish Health  Admin under the LTTE. It’s sad that  TNA including Mr Wigneswaran  prefer Singaporeans to Sri Lankan Tamils!  What a waste of lives in the name of Independence struggle!
Based on the above, I concluded that the welfare mentality has infected Mr. Wigneswaran also. Then this morning I received a mind-exciting message – also from the Tamil Diaspora under the heading "IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU'VE GOT AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM"   and it included the following:
[AND while you are on Gov't subsistence, you no longer can VOTE!  Yes, that is correct.  For you to vote would be a conflict of interest.  You will voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov't welfare check.  If you want to vote, then get a job.]
We could consider Mr. Wigneswaran’s statement as a vote of confidence in Singapore system of Public Administration. The question is whether Mr. Wigneswaran has the right to vote in global issues whilst he is yet to prove himself  in Public Resource Management at local level? Sri Lankan politicians in common  seem to have resigned themselves to welfare – even in terms of Corporate wisdom to manage the Public. Mr. Wigneswaran who is seeking to combine North & East as One province had the greater responsibility to be self-sufficient in Public Administration. Mr. Wigneswaran has confirmed that he was lacking in inner belief that we – Sri Lankan Tamils  are self-governing.

Then there is the following by  - ‘Tamara Kunanayakam, former Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva and Dr. PalithaKohona,
former Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York’:
What was the mandate of Emmerson? – the Island

When  parents successfully complete their parenting and become grandparents – we do not refer to them as ‘former parents’. They are grand because of their wisdom. When a grandparent connects to the grandchildren through natural love – s/he confirms successful completion of parenting position which has the natural strength to hold the family together with the support of Natural Forces. Using the UN label is the entitlement of those who are currently in those jobs. The lesser purpose is when one is applying for jobs above those positions  already held. Former is a relative position. Unless these two ‘formers’ are planning on holding positions higher than the ones they already held within the UN – they are abusing the UN to promote themselves  as leaders of  the lazy and ignorant who spend their whole lives on handouts of Status.  One who takes handouts – gives handouts. One who is grateful for the UN experience would believe in the UN and would confidentially improve the institution by actual practice of UN values and by sharing their UN wisdom with their current worlds.   These two ‘formers’ have confirmed that their UN status was a handout.

Sri Lanka would develop itself  bottom-up through small projects based on true belief that Sri Lanka is ‘home’ through the local environment within, that is one’s home.  This is any part of Sri Lanka that is recognized as Sri Lanka in Common by the world.
